Had a little luck, despite low bird numbers... We worked about as hard as you can work to get what birds we got. Rowdy, my shorthair put in 111 miles on the Garmin over 6 days of hunting and I shot 9 roosters and 2 sharptail. My buddy shot 4 roosters and a sharptail with his lab. The birds were out there, but it was definitely a challenge.

When I lived in N Idaho, there were lots of fields in crops along 95.

As I would drive the side roads to 95, I would hear those roos calling from the fields ....it was a thing of beauty.

Many of those areas have long since been turned into industrial areas or housing developments.

There are still pastures and croplands there too- and I will always remember the calls of those lovely birds.

And putting up hay bales as the sunsets glowed off the equipment ....the muted sounds of evening and the sweet smells of alfalfa ...

Sharon, well said. Ain't many roosters around North Idaho where I'm at. One or two you might find once in a while, but few and far between.

I’m headed to the great state of Nebraska this next weekend to hunt sharpies. I look forward to it every year. Lots of work for a bird, but it’s worth the effort. Annual man trip with my four boys.

Big spaces and few birds not many work better than a gap. I miss mine. Good on you.

Sounds like a great hunting trip .And some nice pictures of the country and some of your success .The very best hunts I have ever been a part of ; are the ones where I worked hard to succeed . I miss the pheasant hunting of the 1960's and 70's
