How long of chain do you run on your drags? What type of fastener do you prefer to connect them? I've always used earth anchors but I have some areas I can't hardly drive one

Wouldn't be a drag if you anchored it, would it?

Sorry. Read that totally wrong!

8-10 feet of chain is what I use

10-12 feet and quick links.

I think mine are set up with 8-10ft of chain. swivels before the drag and one on the attachment end. all my traps have 2 swivels and a quick link on the end. I just run the quick link attached to the trap chain through the swivel body on the end of the drag chain. That way i can use an earth anchor or drag setup on any of my traps if needed.

You have to attach it to the trap somehow I was going to use the split rings but ordered the crunch proof swivels instead I figured I could buy quick links at any hardware if needed

You will pay through the nose for quick links at the hardware store vs our suppliers, sometimes 4 times as much.

Split rings will work just as well and are cheaper. But as Taximan noted, quick links at trapping supply outlets (F&T, MTP, etc.) are ridiculously cheaper than retail.

And my swivel setup is similar to Possum Man - dual use easy on, easy off.

Because I trap logging rds in woods and PRE-HOOK drags to saplings, I use bout 6' chain attached with a quick snap or quick link...WHEN you get a coon or cat that climbs, I don't want it further than head high to dispatch. Plus they leave all that scent near the set to attract others. I don't have time to hunt for a critter so it's never further than chain length. Plus, its faster not having to cross-drive stakes...and don't have to pull stakes either...saving more time and back strain.
Pre-hooking allows using lightweight drags.

I would think the main reason for using a drag is to get the caught critter away from a set. You may want it out of sight on public ground or away from a large mudhole or burdock patch. It might be a great trail you don't want destroyed with a catch circle. I have a place i intend to set where the yotes are crossing a shallow spot in a stream. I don't want them in the water when I get there so some kind of drag will be in order. I won't mind if it has a wash before I get there but I prefer them dry if I have to carry them far.

I lap-link my chains to the drags and weld them together along with the s hooks/j hooks in the chains no point in swiveling the drag as that will be wrapped up so many ways I focus on swivels at the trap end more.
