I've solved problem diggers with a post hole set. I dig a big vertical hole with little to no backing (like a post hole) and bed a trap in front of the hole without blending it in so the trap bed stands out then on the opposite side of the hole I bed another trap and blend it in best I can.

Put a compass set in 10 feet away. Blend it in like a blind set, pick up coyote in the morning

Add one or two more lightly baited / lured holes around the trap. They can only count to one.
Another option is to very discreetly bed a trap back at least a foot as sort of a blind set. Sorry, Taximan already said that.
I like the idea suggested for a urine post close by. Or add a very well blended flat set. Both should be upwind from the original set. Attention is focused already, so catch it off guard.

How will you ever know if YOU get him anyway. Bring a scoop of dirt from a catch in another area

If he is digging traps,he isn't very wise.I would add a second trap and catch him right there. You already have him coming in. Do what Taxi said. Also put the second trap where he stands while digging at your original trap.

Find a trail/trails with limited options and blind set it near a set that he's digging up, they say forget about it and just move on but I can't do that myself as the reward of getting that wise K-9 is a memory you won't forget!
