I shot a buck last night with an odd rack. I noticed he was limping before I shot. I noticed his hoof was missing and the bottom of the leg was shorter.

Interesting! You think an injury or born with a defect??

I have a fawn I have noticed at the ranch that has a bad limp but is as health as any deer I have seen. I saw two coyotes last spring chase twins and they rolled one and it did get away. I think the one I have around is what happened to that one.

we shot 3 deer that were all busted up last year , one doe was an old car hit whole front quarter was busted up , healed all twisted and small.

a nice rack buck , broken front leg that was fresh.

and a doe running on the bone at the first joint above the hoof

that was actually all we got for deer 3 criples

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I killed a buck a few years ago that had been leg shot above the hoof a long while ago. I looked healthy when it was jumping a fence. The rack was strange too. It was a lot smaller on the opposite side it was shot in.

A buck will almost always show deformity on his rack on the opposite side of an injury. Weird

Here is the rack. I heard that also about opposite side of injury but this injury was on the same side as odd rack.

I've heard the rack deformity will show on the same side as a front leg injury, and the opposite side as a rear leg injury.

We had an old doe around the huse several years ago with half a rear leg missing from some mishap. She raised twin fawns at least two years in a row.

Lots of folks assume missing legs on deer, coyotes, fox are from traps or shot off. Hay mower blades and combines account for most.

A few years back, there was a doe near our place for a few years and she was missing the whole front leg and when she walked, her front end bobbed up and down like a bobber, but when spooked, you couldn't tell her from a healthy deer!

Injury to the front leg will cause the rack on the same side to deform, injury to the rear leg will cause the rack on the opposite side to deform.

suggestions? Guess is that deer is just weaker on that side prolly a birth issue. I have shot deer that have weired racks but have issues like your the top picture is of the deer that had a broken and healed leg the rack is the one on the right. The other one is walking around my woods right now cant see any injures on him yet.

That's a good cull animal then. I shot a running Spike once in Wisconsin on a drive. . The bucks body was large and it was keeping pace with another deer. Upon getting up to the deer it had zero leg on one front side. When we skinned it there was no old healed injury scars on body or inside hide. It must have been born that way.
