I have two "barn cats" and a English shepherd farm dog that like hanging out in the fur shed. They will also eat just about anything. Are there any concerns with them licking up blood or eating fat or flesh ? Dog is up to date on shots but cats are just there for rodent control and have never been to a vet. Just concern about parasites and disease from fur bearers. -Thanks

I'd worry more about all the ticks and fleas jumping off.

If you "pole" your skunks take that into consideration about what eats on it!

I had a dachshund that could flesh beaver, she loved being in the skinning shed. I've always clean skinned beaver, but every once and a while I would tack out a rough skinned one on a sheet of plywood, lay it on the floor and let her go to town on it. She'd stand on it and flesh it clean as a whistle. Really fun to watch too.

When grandpa, dad and I trapped heavy, we had a dump trailer for carcasses that the barn cats would always be in. For some reason around half of the young of the year cats (like ones born in spring) would croak after a few weeks of eating muskrat carcasses.
Didn't know why, and never really cared why either...
Just saying...

Lol if there outside pets then it doesn’t matter, lol I remember one time my basset hound got into my fleshing bucket when I went inside for a min and I had done about 6 coyotes, and I peel the back of the ears off and everything and when I came back out there was only one ear left in the overturned tub, should of been 12 lmao. He pooped out some hair for awhile but all was good. I’ve got a pot bellied pig now that if I give them both a chance they go ham on the scraps lol protein I guess

I have a wife and house pets. pets don't get to hang out in the shed. like I said I have a wife. vet bills aint cheap. we have a good one. does livestock. not a pet hospital but still not cheap. wife is good to me and I want it to stay that way. so pets don't hang out in the fur shed.

I have not had any issues with my house dogs in the fur shed, personally. They all have their shots and given a monthly dose of Ivomec. That said, I don't let them just eat what they want. They get beaver meat in allotted doses...but nothing else.

I had a couple that would eat coon fat (and never touch the meat), Then throw up the coon fat. They don't get coon fat anymore. Same with muskrats. Would make a couple sick. Beaver has been the one meat that doesn't seem to effect them negatively if given In moderation. Will really bulk them up, though.
