I'd like some opinions on a good instructional book for processing/butchering deer at home. The book should be full of pics & be detailed as can be for a guy that hasn't had experience. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I liked Basic Butchering of Livestock & Game by John J. Mettler, Jr., DVM, though I have not read it in years.

YouTube is a great source of videos on butchering. There is a British guy who is fantastic named Scott Rea.

There’s a bunch of videos on YouTube on how to process deer. Some different ways to do it as well, so you can watch how people do it and pick one that suits you better.
It’s a lot more practical watching videos than reading a book now. You will be able to open up a butcher shop after watching YouTube for a week.

Just cut on the dotted lines. Every critter has them, just look at the pictures. No, really, you will find the "dotted" lines quite quickly that separate the muscle groups. Remove as much of the deer fat and silver as you can and you'll be happy.

That's a good video. There's also a Kentucky Afield video with Tim Farmer that's good also.

It is what it is.

Best thing do do is help someone who does it themself. A friend showed me and I never watched any videos or read books on it. I do it the way I like, and heck with anyone who says I am not doing it "properly".

Good video on the bone out, but now he needs to skin it all and remove the tendons and tallow. I call it 1/3 done.

that is why you do it yourself because , a lot of places you pay to do it , don't spend very much if any time trimming , especially not the ground , just get it off the bones and grind , wrap the steaks , tube the ground box it freezer done.

they have 499 others to get done that day also

Just whack it up and vacuum seal it - that's what we do.
