All this obsessing over pipes burning out got me thinking... So i hopped on the duravent website. My single wall "black" pipe is actually stainless..painted black. Guess i can rest easy now.

Not all the steel is the same. If the pipe manufacturer switched suppliers, the steel composition may be different. In the mill where I worked they had hundreds of "recipes," each a different grade.

There's the problem !! Get rid of the lady (and/or get a new one) and your pipe should be fine !!

I will kick her in the guts and send her packing.....then I will be splitting and lugging the stinkin wood

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness

The soot mixed with moisture makes sulfuric acid that eats metel fast. I go with the heavy gage stuff ,it last a few years, and dont break the bank

I have always used this Menards single wall stove pipe. Not sure what gauge it is but I get at least 5 years out of it and the stove runs 24-7 from fall to late spring. I do replace the lower elbow more often.

If you don't mind traveling a ways, you'd be pressed to find someone who turns out better work. He built the barrel and back pipe for this stove I restored. It'll last another hundred years.
