Shot one at 535 with a 3006 40 years ago. Leupold 3x9 Gold Ring. Had to pace it off following the kill. About 25 years later I saw a deer at an unknown range feeding in soy beans. Got a dead solid rest and squeezed off a shot. Thought i saw my deer jump a ditch and run with another to a distant field, but then it reappeared near the same spot. I settled down and squeezed off a second shot only to see more deer leave the field for points beyond. Went back to truck and drove to where deer had appeared. Let my blue heeler out to help. RIght away I find a dead deer and call the dog. She will not budge because she is standing over the second deer! Friend came by and asked where I was hunting. Showed him the elevated stand. He used his range finder to establish a range well in excess of 500 yards. Thar rifle was a 270 with 140 grain CoreLokt bullets from a Rem 700. The 535 deer was also from a Rem Classic in 30-06 and a 4x12 VXIII Leupold.

I no longer take such shots, cant drag a deer that far.

I have an arrhythmia that I barely notice until looking through a rifle scope at a distant target . Heck of it is , is it's very irregular so I can't time it to a shot . Offhand isn't happening.

This one at 145 ranged yards with a .20 gauge [Linked Image]
slug gun... good scope and shooting sticks definitely helped. Slug guns and muzzle loaders have come so far in the last 10 years.

They sure have...wish here in WI we would adjust for technology. Maybe go no scopes for muzzy season.

That's a fantastic deer!
