.22 32 Grain CCI Segmented Hollow Point.1640 FPS
The Quiet 740 FPS (low power) are also great for dispatch without exit also.

.22 32 Grain CCI Segmented Hollow Point.1640 FPS
This one^^ The subsonic round they make won't segment out of a handgun.

regular velocity long rifle 40 grain lead bullets out of a revolver. lots slower than a rifle

High powers can over penetrate just the standard ammo or shorts are less likely to go as far, some of that hot stuff will damage the wire on cages.

22 shorts have worked for me in the past on coons. Been using more shorts this year they get it done better then them quiet .22s the shorts are better around cattle yards and don't harm the cages like the hot loads do, same price if not more for the shorts just the noise factor is worth it.

Over the years, I have tried various loads from both a rifle and a handgun. My goal is to have low noise, very quick results, no exit, and never the necessity of a second shot.
My general findings:
In a rifle, long rifle loads are too strong because they build up too much speed and energy in the long barrel. This combo I don’t use.
In a handgun, long rifle loads work very well because they do not build up the excessive speed and energy in the shorter barrel. So this combo works fine.
Hollow point shorts are fine from a rifle because they don’t have sufficient powder to build up the excessive speed and power. This combo is my second choice.
In my experience, shorts are too weak from a handgun. They simply do not have the powder to build up decent speed or power. I don’t use this combo.
A bullet needs sufficient energy and velocity to mushroom or fragment which results in the trauma causing a quick kill.
Low velocity Sub-Sonics, specifically Remington are not effective. When Coon hunting and using that ammo, I could sometimes hear the bullets bouncing off of the coon.
For handguns, the longer the barrel, the stronger the load will perform. I notice a difference between a Ruger SP101 with a 4” barrel, a Ruger Mark II with a 5.5” barrel, and a Ruger Single Six with a 6.5” barrel. Plus the Mark II uses some of the spent gas to cycle the bolt.
I am very interested in trying the CCI Long Rifle segmented hollow point loads at 1640 FPS shot from a handgun. I just found them at Cabelas for $6.99.
Best wishes.
