So mink aren't native to Kodiak? What fur bearing animals are native other than river otter? I assume the fox were planted there?? How about beaver and marten?

I believe that weasels otter and fox are native and beavers and hares introduced. Not sure about the muskrats.

I am amazed there was never a mink farm or two on that island that would have been released with all the easy access to fish for food.

When I was there in the early 80's, fox, otter, beaver, ermine. and hares were common. Some few marten on Afognak. No mink at all. No crayfish, either.

i believe after the last ice age it was only like the bat, otter and bear were the only land critters on kodiak
everything else was introduced, deer ,elk. goats, muskrat, beaver, fox,marten-afognak [no mink] tried moose] red squirrel, ermine? All in the last century. THANK YOU past sportsmen for their fore sight. it would never happen in todays red tape
goats are getting to be so invasive on the national wildlife refuge- registration ,long season and 2 goats
marten doing well ,even now over on raspberry being trapped! keep swimming i hope
these crayfish are not welcomed. we think it will be a disaster with the salmon in buskin lake.
not enough otters to control the crayfish and if someone thought lets introduce mink,[duh] will bet they will like seabird eggs/etc alot too !
snowshoe hares looking to be a good year
green grass in the yard still and raining today.foxes i ve seen need more time as well as half white ermines

Crayfish in the Buskin is a bad deal . Sockeye escapement was way down this year plus there’s a good silver and even humpy run. Dunno if there’s any steelhead left. I worked the Buskin weir long long ago and we radio tagged steelheads-very cool.
