Anyone every use them? They have been around for a half century that I know off. As a kid my dad had them and we used them from trapping, ice fishing, hunting and every outdoor activity we did. I got two of them but will need to get some light fuel to try them out. The tag says use good light fuel??? Would charcoal lighter fuel work in them??
Anyone still use them or can you still buy them?

You can still buy them and the fuel . Jon-e's and Zippo's. I have several of the Jon-e's. The last few years I've been using the rechargeable electronic ones by Celestron. No stink.

That’s funny you bring this up. I was just thinking this morning while I was freezing cold in my treestand that I should really try out my hand warmer that I bought 3 years ago. Every time I hunt for these past 3 years I’ve thought why am I being so lazy and not grabbing the warmer. I even made a special trip to town one day to buy lighter fluid for it. Still haven’t used it. I’ll get to it one of these days lol.
Cold as ice!

I had the liquid and solid fuel models. I remember the liquid fuel ones smelled pretty strong.

I could never get the liquid fuel type to work consistently. Had better luck with the fuel stick warmers. Same here.

I used to have one of the solid fuel stick warmers with the velvet flocking on the case. They worked great but eventually the velvet flocking wears off and the bare metal was REALLY hot.
X 2!

Never had much luck with the hand warmers. I've found a lit Sterno can will help in a ground blind even with though the windows are open. Put a blanket or coat over your legs and the Sterno can between your feet and it works even better. I just freeze in the tree stand and have not found any remedy. I saw an old guy doing that years ago while deer hunting on an SGL. He was sitting on a lawn chair with a blanket over his legs and a lit can of Sterno underneath.

Thanks for the information. I have two that are in the felt bag and I might buy some lighter fluid and try them. I was bow hunting tonight and just got back and thought about those warmers before I headed out. It was a cold SOB tonight and would be nice to have them working. I don't remember them smelling that bad when in operation.

Snowy have you ever tried the Grabber style chemical warmers?
I use a hand muff the kind that has a waist strap, stuff it with grabber style warmers and it works great.. While bowhunting I don’t use a glove just barehands, so I keep my hands in the muff and they stay pretty warm..I’ve hunted in some really cold weather and they work for me...
Also I use the adhesive body warmers and stick them to my first layer, keeps me warm...
Just a thought...
Thought I was a good trapper until I started trapping coyotes...... Thought I was a good bowhunter until I targeted mature bucks....

Just a thought... No, I haven't but I will look in that them. It would be a lot more convenient using that type of warmer then messing around with lighting a warmer. Especially bow hunting. Thanks Ambush.

The disposable packets with iron powder work really well and no stink or burning elements. There are bundles 10x2 packs of grabbers on sale now at most stores. You can stuff them in your gloves, socks, pockets, hand muffs, wherever. I always keep a bunch in the truck during season and have saved many a trap check frozen fingers in our family. My son uses them in his back pockets of his baseball pants for cold early spring games to keep his fingers warm when he can. I used to use the stick burner warmers and liked those when they stayed burning. Got very warm. When they go out though out in field, they can be a real pain to relight especially if raining or in wind. Was one of main reasons I switched to disposable grabbers especially running late season coyote line mostly on foot. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Buy the disposable hand warmers packets. I work outside in the cold alot and I've found that putting the packet on the top side of your hand inside your glove works best. This way warms the blood going to your finger tips very well. I use the foot warmers and just stick them to the top of my toes and put my boot on. Seems to work better than on the bottom as well. Buy the big boxes so you save $. I would buy them by the boxes from Walmart in the spring time, they mark them way down in price.. Pretty cheap... The adhesive body warmers work great, one on my chest, middle of shoulders, and if it was really cold I’d add a couple on my kidneys...I’m using them while on stand bowhunting, I don’t like a lot of bulk while I shoot so this helped my stay warm all day while hunting in some pretty cold weather...

What Okie said. Put your hand warmer in an internal chest pocket as close to your heart as possible. It heats your circulatory system and keeps your whole body warmer. Took me a few years to figure it out.

I had probably still have 2 of the fuel stick type , they work but can get to hot , used them back in scouts and some for hunting , one guy burned his poly sleeping bag his got so hot. with virtually every piece of clothing being polyester now melting your cloths becomes a real concern.
a guy at work used to make buckets for people he made a seat for a 5 gallon pail , it had a metal coffee can in the bottom I think he put it on some small blocks to get it off the bottom a half inch and screwed it together then they lit a Sterno can and dropped it the coffee can there was a vent at the front of the bucket between your legs to let the heat out right where you could warm your hands.
he collected up the metal coffee cans from the break room coffee
most of them were using them for ice fishing but some used them in hunting blinds I think they knew someone who worked catering who could collect up all the 1/2 used sterno cans and they had a free supply of heat .
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I just found 2 of the old fluid type warmers in my stuff today. Anyone want them? I think they must have been my dad's. I don't like them.
