Not bad for a smooth bore 20 gauge 870 with a 4x32 fixed scope and Winchester super x rifled slugs. Even if it was only from 25 yards. Its the gun my son is going to use on his first deer hunt a week fron today. The stand we are going to hunt from most shots are 50 yards or less. So as long as buck fever doesnt get him he should be good to go.

Success!

Its amazing the difference in accuracy between lots and ages of the same brand ammo. Started with some super x slugs that where 5 plus years old and they shot all over the place. But the super x's I bought yesterday took 5 shoots to get the scope sighted in.

I have killed a ton of deer with my 870 20ga had it set up with a red dot scope and sighted in at 75yards. Mine prefered 2 3/4 remington sluggers. Hope your son get a good one

My brother told him he needs to shoot this one. I told him to be watching for it, but not to be picky and take a shot at the first deer that gives him a good shot. Mature bucks were chasing this morning so hopefull they will still be on the move come gun season.

LoL, told him when we started sighting it in that if we could get it to hit inside a paper plate it would be good. I was pleasantly suprised at how good that smooth bore patterned.

Well when it comes to slug guns you need to specify whether your shooting a smooth bore with rifled slugs or a rifled barrel with sabots.

I shoot an H&R Ultra Slug gun that has a rifled barrel and I shoot Hornady SST sabot slugs.
My sons 870 has a non rifled barrel and therefore he has to shoot rifled slugs .
