Trappercass there is a way to lighten the trigger pull on those Axis’s I did it to a 243 I used to have. It’s actually on you tube, you take the trigger mechanism apart and cut 1 1/2 coil off the spring. Then put back together, the more you pull that trigger the more lighter it gets.

Since it is for a young person I wouldn't mess with the trigger. If you need it done let a gunsmith do it. I am fine with the 270 I have. If you worked on it and something tragic happened to your young hunter it would be bad.
Never shot one but surprised no one is hollering 6.5, 6.5 . 243 reduced recoil as mentioned before may be the ticket

One good point is the thumb tab safety. I lost my right thumb and shoot right handed so it makes a difference. Hunted for years with 700 bdl.

I shot this buck in October right where I was aiming in the neck with open sights at just over 100 yards. Model 99 made in 1955. It's always shot very true for me. Love it. My go to gun for deer, elk, bear, whatever... It ain't meant to make 500 yard shots, but that has never been my style anyway.

Best cheap factory gun around. Between my father and I we have about dozen late model savages in different callibers. They all shoot really well, a couple of them are lazer beams. The only complaint I've had was a couple we bought last year had really cheap scope mounts we had to replace.

I just bought a Savage Axis in a 22-250. First Savage I ever owned. Looks and feels like it might make a good gun to shoot. Mite put a good scope on it but am kinda leaning on setting it up with night vision or thermal scope for predator calling at nite. But have to win the lottery first.....oh, but then I would have to start buying tickets!!!

There is nothing wrong with the method I said to do it’s completely safe.

If you buy one of the package preboresighted deals make sure to take the scope off and tighten everything up. We have found that many times they are loose.

X2 on this. I love my Savages however the Axis line disappointed me. Not bad guns but certainly not the traditional savage quality. That being said I would take most Savages over any other brand out there

I have a relation who is a ballistics expert for a national ammo manufacturer. They test every model and make out there. Years ago when Savage stepped it up he informed me that they were doing great things with accuracy and quality of steel used. So I started buying.

As a side note they do all sorts of tests on scopes as well including impact testing. Top scope for durability and accuracy is Weaver.

For what it's worth.

I had got a Savage model 24 of 22lr/410 in the late 80's . It was the first gun I bought and still have it and would not part from it. I have look into the newer ones of the Axis and did not like the way the mag was.It is like my Rem 700 in 22-250 and it did not work for what I wanted.

I have 3 with the Accutrigger. It is very hard for me to buy any thing other than Savage. Bought my first one for my wife in 243 with plans on buying her a better gun when we got married 13 years ago. Put a scope on it, learned to reload and that gun is not going anywhere. Just bought the 308 10-FCP-SR 4 years ago and it is my go to rifle for big game. My 223 is my go to for any coyote hunting. I bought a chassis recently so that the stock would fit my youngest boy. I do not know anyone with a Savage that didn't shoot. Have seen a few that wouldn't group with the scope combo but they shot well after I remounted the scope.

They can be finicky with ammo though. but reloading seems to tighten groups sub MOA all day long.

Have three Savages. Two restocked 110's and a 10LE bull barrel. Love the fully adjustable accuracy-trigger. Never more than one shot needed to kill with any of them yet so they are satisfactory to me.

I have a Savage 110 in .243, a Savage .17mag bullbarrel with accutrigger, a .270wsm with accutrigger, and bought my son a Savage axis 25.06 a cpl years ago. Reasonably priced tack drivers, every one I own is very accurate and not for sale lol.

They've been the only rifle that's held up to the abuse I give them personally. They're economical and I can't say I have much trouble taking care of anything I'd like to expire. I haven't shot a deer in about five years, but I check my .270 every year. It amazes me that I haven't adjusted the scope since 2009. Usually one pattern of four every year and I am satisfied with where it's hitting. Put it to work this year already on a mate coyote on one I had trapped. She's in the freezer. I don't do much rifle shooting anymore besides a lone coyote from time to time, but if I was in the market for a rifle they would be at the top of my list.

Being left handed I have about 7 or so. They are all very accurate, less than 1" at 100 yards with most 1/2" or less. Not gonna win any beauty contests unless they are only judging the targets. No idea about the axis models only have 10/110, 11/111 and 12. Love the accutrigger.

Absolutely love them for the money, sure there’s a few things I’m not in love with like the mags but for the money you can’t go wrong

I own one savage, a .22 and it shoots ok, but I bought this for my Daughter, and then put on a pink ringed leupold 200.00 scope, and a pink and black braided rope sling. She holds 1 inch at 100 yds with all ammo, and the rifle has just the right weight to help with recoil. Only down side is plastic mag but it seems tough enough.
