Congrats to Logan. Great animal. He should be very proud as I'm sure you are.
57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

That is a great looking fox! No wonder he's cross....I get cross when I get my fingers pinched in a trap. What a great trophy and experience for you and Logan.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

If not a mount....get it tanned. Yes, all of his "firsts" get tanned. We were hoping to add a coyote and marten this year. A badger is a long shot here and a cross fox wasn't even on the radar let alone right behind the house. He made a modified hay set with an MB-550 and lured with Cavens gland lure and BACK BREAKER. In this part of the country, a good castor based lure works for everything!
I have nothing clever to put here.

That will get the blood going first thing in the morning, a friend of mine caught one back in the mid 80s and outside photos or tanned fur is the only one I have actually seen
Beautiful animal
Give the boy my congratulations and tell him I envy him the experience

Litter mates may not necessarily be cross fox. They could be ordinary reds or even a silver fox. There are any number of cases where a litter of "red fox" pups is mixed colors. There is a chance of a silver? I better get my butt home and pound some sets in. There is no way I am letting a 10 year old beat me! I bet he won't even let me borrow my 550's back!
I have nothing clever to put here.

Very, very slim chance of a silver. Genetics and all that scientific stuff. I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. Heck, you should be happy if you even see silver fox, let alone catch one. LOL Genetics? Well, the gene pool is pretty shallow around these parts.

When my son was 10 ...we checked 5-7 traps before school...fisher ,beaver,Otter, mink, rats at one location...and had a blast ! But I also kept a diary and wrote up a little story each day in a note book of our catches and non catches...the weather, what lures we used, type of set or cubbie..all kinds of info. Even kept notes of other tracks...Deer ,rabbit, . ..That was 17 years ago....But what a blast reading that diary....lots of great memories and laughs.... even getting spooked by a beaver tail slap is in the diary !

Great idea! I may start keeping a journal.....if he will let me bring my crayons with. Might as well start chapter 1 ...with the excitement and how that cross Fox was caught. I always kept my head down and did not peak at the traps ..I always waited for the youngster to check them and listened to response.....priceless !
