I am thinking of buying a revolver that shoots 22LR. I have heard that 22 ammo is real dirty and will foul up a revolver in a hurry.
So what 22 ammo do you this burns the cleanest?

I wouldn't think fouling would be much of a problem with a revolver. not much of a mechanism to get fouled up. I only shoot CCI mini-mags as they cycle through most any auto.

Shoot what is the most accurate in the pistol and deal with any fouling as a matter of course. Revolver are easily cleaned any way. I never clean the bore of my .22 rifles or pistols unless they start to shoot badly. I just keep the outsides well oiled.

I am a big fan of Remington golden bullets.

I have nothing clever to put here.

its a 22. unless your in a competition fouling wont matter much. every hundred rounds or so put some bore cleaner in the barrel and scrub it good with a brass brush to get the lead out. use a new one every time so it fits nice and tight. they are pretty cheap. then oily patches till they come out clean. then a dry patch. takes about 15 minutes.

I also consider it a nonissue.I use a lot of CCI stuff but shoot several brands. My revolver is stainless and it rarely needs cleaned.I use the same ammo in a semi auto, also with no issues.

I left out something. spray out the inside of the area where the guts are. you know down under the hammer and up inside where the trigger goes with brake cleaner. it will get out any crud. then wipe out the inside of the cylinder with oily patches. wipe down the outside too with a lightly oiled patch. by now the brake cleaner has evaporated so put a little oil back in. put the cylinder back in the gun and pull the hammer back several times to cycle everything. still only takes about 15 minutes.

I soak mine in Ballistol. let them sit for a couple of hours and then blow the crud out with compressed air. Wipe down with a rag and call it good. Now and then the barrels get a clean as written above.

Never had a problem with 22s and fouling. My autos are so dirty in trapping season it's a wonder why the work at all. And when the don't, a drop of oil on the slide gets them back working perfectly. Dirt doesn't matter. A dry slide does. Wouldn't think much would ever foul a wheel gun.

Some advocate not cleaning the 22s much at all. Far far less than the big guns.

My revolver barrel will get leaded when I shoot a lot of rat shot at snakes, but when using regular 22 ammo, it takes a lot of rounds before it needs attention.

My Smith 617 needs to have the cylinder cleaned every now and again or the cartridges feed and eject hard. I like the regular CCIs.

for dispatch distance brand won't matter much.

if your shooting targets CCI standard velocity is nice.

22lr may be dirty but it the fouling doesn't get hard it cleans easily , solvent ,a tooth brush , and a bore brush and you will be cleaned up in short time. just clean every time your out in bad weather or they start to stick when they extract.

also , keep the bulk of your 22lr at home sealed in a ammo can , 22lr is not sealed and will be effected by moisture , it doesn't do your ammo good to sit in the glove box of your truck in the heat and weather.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I find it far more important to find which 22 bullets your weapon of choice likes the best. In a revolver as mentioned, fouling is a non issue.

My CC guns are kept meticulously clean. My .22 revolver.... Once at the end of trapping season.

I have an old stainless H&R model 650. It will shoot anything. At least once a year it gets baptized in one of my creeks. Slosh it around a bit then back in the holster. Hasn't had any other cleaning in 30 years.

I rarely clean my trapline revolver. A ruger single six, shoot shorts most of the time and when a lr wont go in easy, I give it a quick cleaning, maybe once every 3 years, it is in the truck all the time. Hard to foul up a wheel gun.
