We don't have many fox squirrels around here. Almost excluselvly red and greys. Does this look more like a gray of fox squirrel?

That's a gray. We have a neat color variation on grays around here, they have white on the backs of their ears, almost every one.

I just recently started seeing black squirrels in my neck of the woods. Up until three years ago I never saw a single one. I still only see them in one particular swamp.

Yesterday I saw a gray with four white feet.

Eh...wot?

Interesting that people in states surrounding Ky. report seeing gray squirrels with that coloration. In 60 years of squirrel hunting I have never seen one. I have seen fox squirrels with that color combination and many other shades. The genetics of local populations seems to be consistent. I also hear of plentiful black gray squirrels in some areas. Never have seen one. If that squirrel is larger than normal for a gray I would say it is a fox squirrel.

It's a normal grey squirrel. That coloration really isn't uncommon here, not sure on other areas. Sometimes their face/chest are stained brown from eating walnuts, not sure that's the case with that one or not.

Gray. Gray squirrels can range in color from white to black
I've shot grays with all black bellies, all red bellies, and all white bellies, and all of those mixed together all and all weird configurations. As far as fox squirrels.
I have never found very much color change or variation on their bellies.
But remember I live in pa, so that might make a difference as well.
Cool squirrel

Most grey squirrels around my woods are pure black. Ones like in the picture too. The fox squirrel to my knowledge does not have many variations and I seen them as far north as canadian border to deep in Texas,

In the Mo Ozarks, it's quite common to see Grey's with a lot of Orange patches

Some body to a DNA test to be sure. We don't want hybridized squirrels like we do the yotes in the East lol

our normal grey's have that rusty color on them too

If it is as big as a cat, with short legs, its a fox.

I've never seen a fox squirrel with a white belly. Here's one I dried fur side out for my boy so he can tan it on Christmas break from school.

It's a grey fox squirrel

Could be hybrid. Shot one a few years ago that looked like a giant wholly bear. Think I posted it on here

Looks like a Grey.
We have tons of color variations in our greys. The reddish like that is not uncommon here. Black with a blonde tail was one of the odder ones I've seen. We have some with white ears too, like Lugnut mentioned. Each variation tends to have its little pocket, being common there but not seen again for miles.

Foxes have very little color variation that I've seen. But they are much less common in my areas, so I can't say that holds true everywhere.
