Why do we put up fur that doesn't get used, like faces, tails, bellies, etc? For example on raccoon, my understanding is that not counting the novelty/craft market, the back fur is the only fur that gets used. So why don't we just cut out a big rectangle of back fur and dry that and sell it by the square inch? Seems it would be easier to tell what you have that way. I'm sure there's an explanation for it though.

I have no official clue. But from crafts man's perspective. One would want to see as much as possible for personal judgement.

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

Let the furriers through away what they don't need. It doesn't cost you anything to send the hole hide and fashion changes.

Because every sq inch of fur has a possible use and value to someone and as previously stated it's easier to form and dry on a board.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Yes if you want to cut the head off and the belly out then flesh and stretch be my guest. In this low fur market I am betting there are many craft places that can get these scrap furs for little to nothing and that keeps them going as well.
