After reading the responses to my questions I went looking for the lever guns to see what was out there.First site brought me to to Winchesters from the 2018 Shot show, one chambered in the 38/55,the other in 45/90.What a coincidence!Beautiful, especially the 38/55.

Going the other way, I always wanted a .25-20.

I thought a Savage 325 or 340 re-barrel in in 219 zipper would be a whoot but cost kept me from doing it , easier to just shoot 223

You can find older Marlin model 1893 in 38-55 on Gumbroker.com sometimes. I have one with a 26" octagon barrel with a tang sight and really like it. Black Hills ammo makes a cowboy action load for it. Also have a Win 94 in 32 special with a 26" octagon barrel and tang sight. It shots under a 3" group at 100 yards with Hornady's Lever evolution 160 grain ammo.
I stopped at Shiloh Sharps in Big Timber Montana last spring. Loved their guns and I didn't really think the price was bad for a quality rifle. I just cant make up my mind on the caliber. They will chamber it in about any caliber. I mentioned 32 special and it was no problem. Surprisingly they informed me that they chamber quite a few rifles in 30-40 Kraig for the long range shooters who want a pre 1900's cartridge. Their staff was super helpful. I need to make up my mind and get it ordered. Lots of options to consider besides the caliber.
I went to the other Sharps manufacture and they were closed that afternoon.
I love old guns and old calibers. I bought a nice Rock River AR-15 a few years ago. It shoots great but I just can't love it like the old guns!

The older I get,the more sentimental I get.The old time Sharps or lever action fits right in here in the Northwoods. The old uncut military surplus too, they have character!

I shoot a Savage 1899 made in 1907 chambered in 38-55. I reload for it using starline brass, and 255 gr. hard cast bullets from Midway. Very accurate and excellent penetration. When I got into some of the older calibers I added Lee and Lyman hand loaders for them. It adds to the old gun experience. I have the Savage 99's in 303 Savage, 250 Savage, 300 Savage also. I would like to have one of the Winchester commemorative rifles in 38-55 some day. My brother in law has the Crazy Horse. I like the Frontiersman. You can find them on Gunbroker if you want to look at them.

I don't know about that buck. I do know it's a 32-20 necked down to 25, and was considered a nice fast little round in it's day.

I have nothing clever to put here.
