Nice bunch of very old traps! Is the one with the pan that looks like a Sargent the hardware trap.

WOW! That is an awesome collection of #2s... Almost too much to absorb in one sitting... Thanks for posting...

Interesting chain on the Union Hardware. Is the one with the really pointed cross and drag a Newhouse?

It is. My oldest model of Newhouse I own. Trying to find a
All hand forged. No luck yet. It’s all hand forge, except the
Jaws.

Thanks for the pic. I haven't seen a #2 Newhouse with that early pointed cross.
And if you ever have to choose between your woman or your traps;..... I know a trap collector close by that is looking for a wife. wink

Appreciate the thought of taking her off my hands. Ha.
She tolerates our bedroom decor of wolf traps and a bear
Trap. Thanks though. Pat.

An unusual number two Newhouse spring is length of number one but spring eye is made for the two size stamped spring I believe.

No I have numerous shorter spring and longer springs in forged spring Newhouse traps. Plus if the spring gets reworked the spring stamping usually disappears with the reheating of the metal. It looks like a slick pan but most likely is the wrap around stamping on the first stamped pans wore off. The trap does show an unusual point on it though, it might be older than Iam thinking.

Is it possible to age your trap by the pan post? There is probably some carry over between the two but I picture the slick pan with a two piece post and the wrap around with a cast post.

Pat, Could the trap with no pan be a P. S. MFG.?.. Might just be the camera angle but the springs look a little shorter than Newhouse...

Pat, Your trap with the long point looks similar to a Hart trap. The Hart jaws and jaw posts are a bit different than a Newhouse on this model.

These two Hart traps have different style springs and are not marked "Hart", just "No 3" on the bottom. The #1 1/2 Hart was a #2, so the #2 size Hart trap is a #3.
