That clear ice is so much fun, just never last long before our stupid weather clouds it up. Always wet snow or rain seems to do it in. Enjoy the days you have it.

I set a few #3 Bridger four coil on 15' drowner to 35lb cinder blocks in a small river channel near the house. I don't have too much free time to trap so I don't have too many sets out at a time. It's been a good 3 days.[Linked Image]

It was a good run

I am finally setting out some colony sets. Not easy with all the shelf ice to find the better spots. I need to learn a lot about these traps. Set 6 and got two rats this AM. Water is lower but still really fast in many places where I am at. I talked with a farmer today and they still have 12 million gallons of liquid manure to inject and on good days they can do about 1 to 1.2 million gallons so they will be busy for a few weeks yet.

I like the bridger conis too, but ive never tried any conis baited under the ice. are the 159s a 160 sized trap? ive heard the 110 and 150 sized ones don't have enough jaw spread for these sets. are these bigger? are you running a decent catch rate with the baited sets. sure would beat busting huts all day. thanks.

They are a 5” jaw spread. We can’t bust huts in Wisconsin

The 159s are a 6×6" single spring and 150s are 5×5. They both work great in my opinion. But the bigger jaw spread has not missed yet. The catch rate is about 43 percent so far and that is setting up with good ice. The ice is now thicker and about 6" of snow for tonight. Ill check and set more tommorow and keep rotating traps towards the refuge area as it opens the 11th of Dec. Good luck

thanks for the info deerfly. I think the extra inch of jaw spread would be a big plus, and well worth the extra cost. as I said, ive never used baited conis before, but today we set 25 160s baited with carrots. curious to see what the catch rate is after a day or two. if they catch at an acceptable rate, i'll pick up a few dozen of the 159s. the single spring would be a lot easier than the 160s we set today. second spring is a pain with the safety hooks dangling there, waiting to hook on something. again, thanks for the info.

Find some used 160’s for a cheap price and remove 1 of the springs. That’s what I did.
