Trying to post my receipt but the early coon I trapped on farmland, put-up & blue averaged $3.00... mostly sows. That sounds more than generous for put-up early coon.

One of the dead stock guys near us was saying that China did not want any cow or deer hides after the 1st of the year. I don''t know if that still is what will take place as there are some discussions still taking place.
Bryce Heard the same thing here in Pa. The deer processors aren’t buying them, many are pitching their hides instead of salting them. They’re paying for dumpster space instead of making $6 off of them.

Don't bother with carcass coon. I didn't see any carcass coon that brought more then $6.00 lots of $1.00 and $3.00 coon. One guy had some put up coon and he averaged about $14.00. Didn't see many coyotes but one guy had a put up coyote that went for $70.00 I think his other coyote went for $10.00.
My rats averaged just under $4.00. Guy did say fully prime winter rats will bring $5.00 averages. So the rat market Isn't to bad.
Not much fur mostly deer hides.
Looks like groney Is cutting way back on his stops here In WI he's only making one more stop down by me. Aside: I was in Trader Joes Chelsea NYC (Orange-Man-Bad Territory like you've never seen) this morning and saw a 20-something hot girl wearing a short midriff-like winter coat that looked like coon (entire coat was fur). And cute because it was short and youthful looking. I stopped and asked her what it was....RACCOON. She said is always afraid to say it because someone might hit her in this town. I'll have to check the law books, but I'm pretty sure we're getting married now.

The rat demo they did I learned a couple of things and in it they said it was controversial but that they preferred wire stretched rats. The main reason I remember is that they stack up better and when you dealing with thousands of them you don't want the stacks to keep falling over. Not sure if it applys to coon but Im not sure why it wouldn't. Seemed interesting none the less. Ask him to do a finished fur demo Beav. One for a boarded coon and one for a wire stretched coon. Have them put the same coon up on both so we can finally put to rest the wood vs. wire question. Also show what differences there are in the seven piles the fur goes into when you sell them a pile of finished fur. This would be informative if they want finished fur. LLL

That would be a Interesting flick.
I think they would rather buy wire stretched rats because a wire stretched rat when stretched and dried come up smaller then a rat done on wood. So are they paying less on a smaller rat? I'm betting they are. This stacking thing In my opinion Is BS. Fur Is baled like card board and I can't see where a thicker wood done rat Is going to make any difference.
I'm betting the same applies to coon. Well when they buy green skinned coon and carcass coon the cut them right down the middle power flesh them and throw them on a wire stretcher with some way of holding them on and let them dry.
Buying wood stretchers would also mean more money.
I'm going to keep on using wood.

I have wood and will keep using it. LOL.
57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Interesting. I'm using wire right now because it cheaper and stores easier.
You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

I'm going to keep on using wood. Actually Beav( Sorry I don't know your real name),but I am definitely buying the wire stretch on rats for stacking. We handled over a million rats in one season in the early 80's and before we bailed them they were all layed out in stacks of 100's on the floor before hand.If they were stretched on wood it would have been he double hockey sticks.Trust me I was the little gopher running around counting and stacking them all LOL.We shipped all over the world in bales of 1500 /bale-I even sewed up all the bales before they left for europe etc..But again if they were wood stretched rats-I would have lost my mind from them falling over all the time.
