I went the other way and never regretted it one bit. Not going back either. The Taco was a good little truck at the time but once I stepped up to a Tundra, there is no going back!

I can’t fit in a Toyota....So my 2500 GMC 2015 works for me...pulls the 38 foot camper...21 foot Freighter Canoe ....plows snow ...you know,a real work truck.

I've bounced back and forth from anything from one to half ton to compact pickups as needs change.
I'm now in my 70's and never thought I'd need more than an 8ft 1/2 ton. Guess what? I'm moving up to a 3/4 ton to haul a dump trailer for full cord wood deliveries.

A full sized truck is about impossible to work out of for trapping from the sides most work has to be done from the tailgate opening. I can't see having a truck that everything is out of reach and jumping up and down all day would suck. A Toyota is not that much smaller (New ones) but it's a little better, I drive my old tank for trapping 95% of the time because of the easy access to the stuff in the bed, has the right tires and posi so it goes in and out of a lot of places.
New Toyota gets good mileage some days and poor mileage other days it pulls my 12 foot trailer no problem with a load of wood, the biggest issue with Toyota is the traction package you want comes on the Off-Road package model and so does EVERYTHING else! LOL

I like my Toyota a lot but the little D 50 is so easy to work out of and that's what I built it for, no luxury just function! LOL

Its easy to carry a gorilla or similar step stool to reach into a full size bed.

I couldn’t go without a full size truck. I drove 3 different f150 before I finally got into what I really wanted.

so what type of fuel mileage did you guys see with the tacoma . i was hoping the little truck would be handy when i didnt take the side by side trapping. and a little easier on fuel It's all in how you drive them. I have had 3 Tacomas. Still have 2 of them. 2003 extended cab got 21-23 miles per gallon with ladder rack and ladder. 2007 gets 23-25 miles per gallon. 2016 gets 20-23 miles per gallon. All 3 of the above trucks are 4 cylinders. The 03 and 07 are 5 speed standard transmissions. The 16 is an automatic transmission. I have driven and owned full sized F150's. I never felt comfortable in them after driving Rangers and Tacomas. Always felt like I was taking up my side of the road and half the other side.

It's all in how you use a truck, IMO. I had a Silverado, thought it was great til it started having issues nobody could fix. Decided to try a Tacoma. Got a 5-speed, 6 cylinder, and it gets 20-23mpg. Best the Silverado ever did was 19 on flat ground set on cruise. Normal was 16. I got extended cabs of both trucks, but the Tacoma is definitely smaller. I'm usually by myself, rare to have a passenger, so not an issue for me. Tacoma way easier to access the bed of the truck, and it goes places my Silverado would've sunk like a boat anchor. I wish Chevy or Ford would make a good dependable truck, built to last. You hear about someone who has one that has gotten extraordinary miles on it, but it's the exception, not the rule. With Toyota's, the first comment outta people's mouths, "Last truck you'll ever need to buy, it'll run forever." Had two people question my loyalty to American made. I told them it was a simple choice for me. Asian's buy fur, not Americans, it's only right I should purchase their better goods, if they purchase mine. Besides, an American sold it to me, and it was probably at least partially made or assembled by an American. Not to mention it was about $20,000 cheaper than a replacement for my Silverado.

I need a full-size truck for towing and hauling. My current one is a 2008 Tundra. I used it on the trapline for years but it's really too big to be running around on tractor trails and logging roads. So four years ago I bought an old Ram 50 for $1,200.00. It was supposed to be a dedicated trapline truck but I soon started using it to run errands and it became my daily driver when I'm not working. As far as buying American, that is just a sad joke anymore. Chrysler took all that bail-out money then sold the company to Fiat, the Italian auto maker. That's right boys, your Dodge Rams are now made by the Italians... Merica! LOL And my Dodge Ram 50 isn't even a Dodge, it's a Mitsubishi Mighty Max. Back in the eighties Dodge completely misread the auto trends and was getting it's arse kicked in the small truck market due 100% to mismanagement and stupidity. They realized they had to do something quick and had no time to retool and get into the booming market. So they commissioned a bunch of Mighty Maxes from Mitsubishi, put there own badges and emblems on them and called them Rams. LOL. My Tundra is built right here in America in San Antonio, Texas. Tacomas are built there too. In fact, Toyota has four manufacturing plants in America in Texas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Indiana.

Mine's an 89 4WD with a 2.6L. I do enjoy driving it.
