I don't know how one can trap out of a full size truck the box is so tall. Tacoma all the way.

There is a noticeable difference in MPG with the Tacoma manual VS Automatic transmissions.

I've had a few small trucks, of these, the early 90's toyota 4x4 pick-up with the 22re was the best and churned through anything. However, I don't think I'd ever go back to a small truck. Though better off-road, the just don't have the payload or towing capabilities that I need/want much of the time.

As far as buying American, that is just a sad joke anymore. Chrysler took all that bail-out money then sold the company to Fiat, the Italian auto maker. That's right boys, your Dodge Rams are now made by the Italians... Merica! LOL

And my Dodge Ram 50 isn't even a Dodge, it's a Mitsubishi Mighty Max. Back in the eighties Dodge completely misread the auto trends and was getting it's arse kicked in the small truck market due 100% to mismanagement and stupidity. They realized they had to do something quick and had no time to retool and get into the booming market. So they commissioned a bunch of Mighty Maxes from Mitsubishi, put there own badges and emblems on them and called them Rams. LOL.

My Tundra is built right here in America in San Antonio, Texas. Tacomas are built there too. In fact, Toyota has four manufacturing plants in America in Texas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Indiana.

I need a small truck for every day trapping and a large truck for hauling. I have been running Toyotas since 1990 and they hold up well. When I was working my career job I was given 3/4 ton Chevy, Dodge, and Fords. Dodge seemed to be the strongest, Chevy the best gas. All did good to around 100 thousand miles then it was time to get rid of them.
Same driver, same type driving and my Toyotas will triple the milage and still go strong.

I have a 2000 3/4 ton GMC van I use as a tool truck. It's still going strong but PA road salt has taken a toll on it and it's soon time for a new one.

It's got 150,000 some miles on it and has only ever taken two fuel pumps and a distributor. I doubt I'll get that sort of service out of a new GMC, seen and heard too many horror stories about the quality of new GMC's and chevys.

I'll probably take a look at a 3/4 ton Ford work van in 3/4 ton. If only Toyota made a heavy van...

Eh...wot?

I have 3 pickups that I use for different reasons. I have a 2500HD Chevy with a Duramax that mainly gets used for pulling my 36ft, fifth wheel camper. I have a 2wd 3/4 ton Ford that I use for my mowing business. It pulls a 18ft trailer that has a dump box for grass and room to haul the mower also. My third is a Dodge Dakota 4x4 with a 318 engine. This is my daily driver as well as my trapping vehicle. I pull a 12ft trailer with a side by side for checking traps. They are all older, the diesel is a 2006, but they are in good shape. The best part-no payments.

The problem of reaching over the side of a full size pickup is easily overcome by using a bedslide. You can even use a topper then to keep your gear dry, out of sight and secure.

Sell the truck and put the bedslide in the new one.

I like Chevy Colorado's or their equivalent in Nissan or Toyota. We got a lot of narrow back roads and full size are a pain. My brother broke a mirror because our neighbor didn't get over far enough when he met him on the road.

If you are going to JUST trap as some pointed out that a small truck was better, than buy you a clunker little truck. But for the other 9 months out of the year AND IF you are using the vehicle on trips the full size is the only way to go. Ride ,comfort , and mileage of a full size will well surpass the small truck as trapping vehicle.

I ran a 2009 Tacoma sport four door long bed and loved it. Now in a 2017 Tacoma off road four door long bed . Great trucks! Just make sure you fit in it. I’m 6’1” 210 and fit nicely.

I have both. I got a dakota 4x4 with the 318 and that truck is beast. Put a set of mudders on it and I can go anywhere... til it gets high centered lol. I have had friends want me to prove just what that truck will do, and I think I have scared them a few times. A while back, I wanted a half ton, so I found a 4x4 sierra and I love it. However, the sierra is a lot nicer for my dakota,so I just checked traps with it on the way to the deer blind. I honestly like the little dakota better than the sierra for trapping. Sides arent that high so reaching things is not hard, it is small so it can fit in a lot of tight places, and I dont have to worry about the paint on it lol. Its nice to have one of each though. The full size is great for deer hunting, toting a rifle and getting in and out of, while the dakota is a little tight but it makes up for the places you can go. One thing I have been looking at is one of those little jap mini trucks. I think one of those would be fun, and would make the gas bill a lot cheaper during season.

went the opposite. Lately went from a Ford Ranger back to a F150. Just more room for my stuff.

Hmmm never seen a Silverado get better mpg then a Tacoma. Unless a diesel maybe. I get 22-25 with my taco and never got above 20 with a Silverado when I owned them. Usually 17-18. I went to
Tacoma and won’t go back much more reliable truck.
