I need a full-size truck for towing and hauling. My current one is a 2008 Tundra. I used it on the trapline for years but it's really too big to be running around on tractor trails and logging roads. So four years ago I bought an old Ram 50 for $1,200.00. It was supposed to be a dedicated trapline truck but I soon started using it to run errands and it became my daily driver when I'm not working. As far as buying American, that is just a sad joke anymore. Chrysler took all that bail-out money then sold the company to Fiat, the Italian auto maker. That's right boys, your Dodge Rams are now made by the Italians... Merica! LOL And my Dodge Ram 50 isn't even a Dodge, it's a Mitsubishi Mighty Max. Back in the eighties Dodge completely misread the auto trends and was getting it's arse kicked in the small truck market due 100% to mismanagement and stupidity. They realized they had to do something quick and had no time to retool and get into the booming market. So they commissioned a bunch of Mighty Maxes from Mitsubishi, put there own badges and emblems on them and called them Rams. LOL. My Tundra is built right here in America in San Antonio, Texas. Tacomas are built there too. In fact, Toyota has four manufacturing plants in America in Texas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Indiana. I need a small truck for every day trapping and a large truck for hauling. I have been running Toyotas since 1990 and they hold up well. When I was working my career job I was given 3/4 ton Chevy, Dodge, and Fords. Dodge seemed to be the strongest, Chevy the best gas. All did good to around 100 thousand miles then it was time to get rid of them. Same driver, same type driving and my Toyotas will triple the milage and still go strong.

I have a 2000 3/4 ton GMC van I use as a tool truck. It's still going strong but PA road salt has taken a toll on it and it's soon time for a new one.
It's got 150,000 some miles on it and has only ever taken two fuel pumps and a distributor. I doubt I'll get that sort of service out of a new GMC, seen and heard too many horror stories about the quality of new GMC's and chevys.
I'll probably take a look at a 3/4 ton Ford work van in 3/4 ton. If only Toyota made a heavy van...
Eh...wot?

The problem of reaching over the side of a full size pickup is easily overcome by using a bedslide. You can even use a topper then to keep your gear dry, out of sight and secure.
Sell the truck and put the bedslide in the new one.

I like Chevy Colorado's or their equivalent in Nissan or Toyota. We got a lot of narrow back roads and full size are a pain. My brother broke a mirror because our neighbor didn't get over far enough when he met him on the road.

I have both. I got a dakota 4x4 with the 318 and that truck is beast. Put a set of mudders on it and I can go anywhere... til it gets high centered lol. I have had friends want me to prove just what that truck will do, and I think I have scared them a few times. A while back, I wanted a half ton, so I found a 4x4 sierra and I love it. However, the sierra is a lot nicer for my dakota,so I just checked traps with it on the way to the deer blind. I honestly like the little dakota better than the sierra for trapping. Sides arent that high so reaching things is not hard, it is small so it can fit in a lot of tight places, and I dont have to worry about the paint on it lol. Its nice to have one of each though. The full size is great for deer hunting, toting a rifle and getting in and out of, while the dakota is a little tight but it makes up for the places you can go. One thing I have been looking at is one of those little jap mini trucks. I think one of those would be fun, and would make the gas bill a lot cheaper during season.

I currently drive a Ram 1500 regular cab 2 wheel drive and the next one is going to be a 2500 diesel 4x4 for sure. And
Let's go Brandon
