Right guy, wrong quote. smile

"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."
is a quote by Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Of course it was originally stated in Japanese, this is the English translation.

Charlie

He also opposed the attack on Pearl Harbor as he had attended school in the US and he knew the consequences of such an attack. However, like any good soldier or sailor was given an order he served his country.

One of my Dad's best friends never met his father. Wayne's father was on the Arizona.

I always remember Pearl Harbor Day as it is my mothers birthday. May all our fallen patriots rest in peace. That seems so little to say about such a sacrifice.

It was 2008. I was in Hawaii and was visiting the Arizona memorial. There were a few Japanese tourists visiting and were talking and laughing in a tone I didn't appreciate. I asked politely and pointed to a sign that says to remain quiet. It didn't work. 3 or 5 other Marines who I don't k ow then took over. Those tourists, from my perspective nearly went overboard. But they didn't make a peep the rest of the tour. To include the ferry ride back.

Rest in peace and never be forgotten. I was born 34 years and one day later, the date we declared war on the Empire of Japan.

The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle.

UpStateNY, I teach Social Science-History, 12-7-2019 again we watched Pearl Harbor video, talked of the sacrifices, and honoring our heroes, fighting to preserve this country and being Number 1 is good. In addition stop judging the past by current moral beliefs. History is what it is, and what they did was right or accepted in those times. Learn of and from our past.
