There is a bridge with concrete walls, mostly mud with a few inches of water flowing on one side. Along the wall with land it look like a mink highway with all the track, but not sure how old they are. I set some 110's with mono "trip wire" triggers, and added some grass to make break the outline. Been over a week and nothing, are mink just going around the sets ? Any advice ? -Thanks

Try a pocket set in the water with a foot hold, you can use a tile spade or your boot to create it- I bait mine with a muskrat leg and add mink musk on a cotton swab- make sure you stake for coon.

Try to think about where the mink is going in and out of the water and catch it there.

Blind set with a foot hold where they enter the water or a pocket set

I would try footholds instead. In my experience mink are taken in bodygrippers where they can be easily blended in existing brush. Try footholds under the bridge and find forced options outside the bridge for BGs. If you can, dig out a section of mud to fill in with water then set foothold. They may be traveling the water side too. I would try something there.

grin grin Breeding season maybe but not normally anywhere close to that. If they have plenty of food, which most do, they aren't moving far and wide. They will stay within a mile or two area.

Thank you CH. I always wondered who tracked them for 20 miles or waited 30 days to see them again. I always thought they were such efficient hunters that they never had to go far to eat. If they did stall out for awhile I bet they were denned up munching on a muskrat or rabbit,

Computer Hater's statement matches my experiences as I have tracked mink in the snow for 50 years and have a "few" stories that contradict the 10 miles/night --- 20 day return theory. All animal home ranges depend on the availability of - Food - Cover - Water and seasonal reproduction urges (Bio. 101). So if conditions (weather and the previously mentioned items) are consistent, it is reasonable to assume the animal will be back very close to the area they were using. Or---TRACKS BY THE BRIDGE - Set a TRAP (body grip or foot hold).

Add some blocking and force them to go where you want them to go - right over your sets.
Sometimes they'll just hop over stuff - pretty agile critters they are.

Foothold on the shallow side with a wire long enough to reach water deep enough to drown, bottom edge on the deep side ,you'll have em soon enough.

It some times take awhile for them to show up.if it is about a 1" of water i would use a foothold and also give them a place that they can get on to dry off with the foothold where they hug the wall.I would set 2 traps on one side of that or more and on the water side ,if the water is deep then you can do 2 things the bottom edge set or build up for the mink have a dry place to get on the side of the water if the water is not very deep and set 2 traps on each side of it. also look at the end of the bridge to see where they might be going up the bank or holes they can look for food. You can set 6 foothold traps with drags and work it out.Just need to do the wait game with them. I had got 2 in the same place that is a blind set in a week time. Both where males. You just do not know at times. As for set more then one at like a set i stated for a dry spot is because you have a chance to get coon and rats also.
