Not uncommon -but I'm thinking of tanning this one for the cabin, should look nice on a Knotty Pine wall. I never caught one as jet black, really no distinctive stripes on the tail.

That's cool.
Our son caught one when he was a little shaver. I had it tanned for him.
In our area, I've heard them called 'Fisher Coon' since they are so dark/black.

As cool as it is the value is probably less than a lighter colored one. You say not uncommon. How many have you caught?

Wish I had more time to trap....

2X...I believe this would be a $1 coon based on color. I've caught a lot of dark coons over the years but none I would consider black, most of the blacker ones I've caught have always had more of a typical coon tail.

Black Raccoon, aka Fisher coon, were once in high demand by the fur trade and would always bring premium prices at NAFA. Today, not wanted.

Pretty neat I think. I have never seen a coon that dark. Get it tanned for the wall. I have brother that trapped an albino skunk years ago. Only skunk he deemed worthy of skinning. I'm glad he sent it off. It actually brings more conversation than the nice montana cats hanging on his wall.
