Have a few more spots to check for dry dirt this but only came up with a 5 Gallon bucket so far.. A fellow trapper down the road said he has bought top soil in a bag from the hardware store and used it said it was good and dry and was cheap

You may also check with any garden centers in the area. Lowe’s and or Menards May also have it, I’ve bought from all three in the past. Mostly sifted or pulverized dry dirt. If you can buy from a local garden center you may be able to get it before they add anything ( peat, fertilizer,etc....) . Good luck !

I break it up and run it in a food processor I bought at a garage sale a buck. I bought it after I burned up wife's magic bullet... Oops

Wish I had more time to trap....

I was able to make enough waxed sand to fill up three 5 gallon buckets in a couple of hours. Bought bags of play sand that was indoors and bone dry at Home Depot. I melted 3 lbs of trap wax to 160 degrees then poured 25 lbs of sand into the pot of melted wax. Kept stirring with a paint mixer attached to an electric drill. Did that 4 times to fill up the 5 gallon pails. Did a test to see how it worked and its still holding water after 24 hours.

I used a regular ole cheese grater to turn block wax into fine enough shavings to melt before scortching the dirt. A little bit of effort but worked fine. I did mine in a pot either over a flame or double boiler..I can't remember. The wax shavings melted quicker and better than cut chunks off the block.
