Dept. of Interior Zinke leaving post. I sure hope the right person is chosen for this post. Interior Secretary is a big deal for all outdoorsman. Zinke never impressed me much and was very disappointed in his performance on the job.

I disagree. I think he did a great job as the most pro-hunting Secretary of Interior of my lifetime. He has moved much of the land management decisions from the Federal government to the States and locals. In my opinion, that is a very good thing and long overdue.

The Zink was an interesting guy. Never a dull moment with him. I hope we don't get the deputy sec, he is not impressive on how he's come across to me. A lobbyist most of his recent adult life. The DoI is one of the departments that does yet to have a FY19 final budget so if the gov is "shutdown" after Dec 21, the DoI peeps will be sitting at home until somebody blinks in Washington...

You are totally right, and agree on management decisions. I was referring to missteps in handling procedure of the office.

He is leaving because the democrats are taking over the house. He has done more for sane land management and a true friend to Alaska.
I also agree with Corky!

Doing most of my hunting, fishing, and trapping on a National Wildlife Refuge here on the Mississippi, I had very high hopes for Zinke. He MAY have messed up in a few matters, but I really hate to see him go.

We had a multi-year battle to preserve our hunting, trapping, fishing, boating, and camping rights on the River with the Feds during the CCP process, and in not too long it will raise its ugly head again. Zinke could have been a great advocate for us.

You can blame the Dem take over of the house if you want to rationalize that argument, but we all have to admit working in this current executive branch and cabinet has been hazardous to most for their political careers let alone their personal careers. Good persons can find other more meaningful careers then working for someone who calls you a lazy dumb as a rock person if you don't bow at the appropriate times.
I could see a person such as Zinke being hired by some major conservation and or outdoor organization and have some lobbying impact instead of what he is doing now. No use staying around to figure out where and when the next mine field needs to be traversed.

X2 on this, I think Zinke has been one of the best Secretary of Interior's in many MANY years. His interests are very much aligned with those of the majority of knowledgeable sportsmen/women.
