And what thinks the T-man crowd? My guess is you would fall off your chair had you any idea what I have into these presents... I think they are pretty neat!

Good looking jackets!! I prefer the natural ones but if red and blue "float your boat", that's ok. They are all REAL fur. smile

I thinking you don't have as much in those jackets as folks might think you do.

To me, those look like jackets that have been made with let-out pelts. I think that is the correct term. A let-out jacket is made with small pieces of fur sewn together with pieces of fabric. The length of the fox fur covers up the fabric on the outside of the jacket. It also gives the jacket that shaggy look. Using the proper technique, you can make a jacket like those in the picture from 1 (2 pelts max) pelt. If you could look st the inside of the jacket, you would see a lot of thread.

A jacket like those in the picture that is made with full pelts would take 7-10 pelts and would have a smoother look. The difference between 2 pelts to make a jacket as opposed to 10 pelts is huge when it comes to cost. Back in the late 70s and early 80s, you could buy a bluefox jacket for a couple hundred bucks because the jack was made with let out pelts. Whereas a full, pelt jacket would have been at least a grand or more.

Please note - I am in no way criticizing those jackets. They are beautiful. They are most likely well constructed and give 7 young ladies lots of pleasure.

Good job.

Hey Nancy- I like your feedback- I’m well aware of your vast experience and wisdom of all things trapping!

The skins are not let out- not even partially. In my experience; on this coast and likely in this country, skilled labor is far more costly than a few Pa fox skins. So your 7-10 estimate is right on. Except for the one blue vest on the left, in which the skins are put together vertically. The skins are attached to one another horizontally. The only fabric is the lining (satin). The 70s and 80s sound nice!

I like the naturals better as well! I’m thinking next round of product will be full length and hooded!

Interesting. Putting the pelts together horizontally sure gives a different look to the jacket. Thanks for enlightening me.

I agree that labor costs in the US would be expensive on doing a jacket that has been let out.

When I wear fur; as I often do in winter, the only folks that pay me compliments are the “Sniffy Dog” types of folks...

I didn’t build them- but I have been trying to become learned in the processes our fur’s final uses.

Seriously, though...I will...
