So, looking for advice on how to patch a hole on the bottom of a rubber boot? I was out today cutting a shooting lane and put a stick right through the bottom of my Cabela's 1200 g Thinsulate boots. I knew when I was on my way out that I should've wore a different pair of boots, but I decided just to roll with it and I ended up putting a stick about the size of a pencil right to the bottom of my boot!

Have any of you guys ever tried using a plug like you would use in a tire to repair a hole like this?

Thanks for any and all replies.......except for the sarcastic ones!

The only way I know to fix that is with a new pair of boots.
If you were to use a tire plug, half of the plug will be inside the boot,
not very comfortable to walk on,doubt anything else would work.

Phil Swift would say to use Flex-Seal.

I used marine goop on mine this week and it's holding up great. I've used it on others as well.

The UV protected GOOP's are good but I have found nothing that holds up longer than AquaSeal( except old fashioned vulcanized rubber patch, but most rubber is now too low grade for them to hold and poor choice for bottom of boot. If hole is not too large tire plugs might work.

Id try some super glue squirted good up in the hole. The stick may have been the size of a pencil, but you didn't lose any rubber so that should work.

I've used Aquaseal on some neoprene waders and on my trapping boots - works!
but... the holes were not on the bottom of the boots or waders.

I actually successfully repaired a boot with a hole in the sole with MasterSeal NP-1
MasterSeal NP 1 is a one-component, high performance, non-priming, gun-grade, elastomeric polyurethane sealant

I have a pair of lacross rubber boots that i stepped on a nail and punctured the sole. I plugged it with a tire plug. Trimmed off the excess to where it was comfortable and wore those boots untill the uppers dry rotted. The sole never leaked and the plug never leaked or came out.

I'm an Aqua-seal guy. What I would do is try to clean it some with lacquer thinner. Then work aqua seal into the hole so you know it's completely covered. I do think the tire plug would work but you may actually have to make the hole bigger to do it. What ever you try let us know how it works when your done.. I haven't studied up on it but I do believe the NP-1 is in the same family with Aqua-seal. What ever you use needs to stay flexible which I believe supper glue type products do not..

A friend used liquid nails on the top of his boot, around the toe area I think. Said it works just fine.

I, too, believe the plug option would work. I have a kit in my truck at all times so if I need to repair a boot sole, maybe I'll remember to plug it.

True that but Im thinking only the toe portion does the flexing on the sole. Im not sure where the hole is on his boots./

Get one of those tire patchs with the plug as a part of the patch. Put the patch on the inside with the plug sticking out the bottom. You will have to remove the insulation. Put it back ontop the patch and trim off the plug level with the sole

Used a tire plug with a little shoe goo.......boot feels comfortable, the real test will be when I'm on Lake of the Woods this spring when there's standing water on the ice, so we'll see!

Thanks for the replies!
