Today was a promising day on the line. Started it out by going to an area where I had caused the beaver to become trap shy to conibears after I pegged one 2 weeks ago. I knew these beaver were not going to go anywhere near conibears to I set a 330 in a channel that ran between the lodge and the feed pile. I put a 330 on bottom and a snare above the 330, through the ice. Had 2 more snares around the feed pile. This morning when I checked, sure enough there was the same beaver I had pegged 2 weeks ago, with the snare above the 330 tight around its neck. One of the snares around the feed pile had been pulled tight but was empty and the other one was untouched. Then I drove to check 3 mink sets I had under a bridge. All 3 sets were empty, but I noticed otter tracks in the snow. I followed them and discovered an absolutely massive beaver lodge, probably 40 feet long, by 15 feet wide. There were 3 entrances I found, one underwater connecting to the creek and 2 others on dry land, but apparently being used, as the otter tracks came straight out of one of the dry land entrances. I put a 330 in front of the large dry land entrance, and a 220 in front of the smaller one with the otter tracks coming from it. In front of the underwater entrance I put a snare. Then, I went on a new piece of timber company land I found and placed 2 bobcat sets by rocky outcroppings with both coyote and bobcat sign nearby. Flash back to last night when I heard 4 or 5 coyotes yipping and howling in my neighbor's field... so I get back home and go knock on my neighbor's door to ask if I can put some traps on his property, which he obliges. Made 2 dirt hole sets baited with beaver meat and Canine Force for a lure. And I only pinched myself in a 1.75 once, so definitely a success.
