I ain't much for gift giving. In general when it comes to Christmas, I'm the guy that invented the phrase "Humbug".

But, I (my wife) has a guy that plows our driveway "on demand". I'm in a semi rural setting, with a 500 ft driveway that winds around a hill up to my house. My wife has a beauty shop in the house and needs a clear driveway for her clients, most of which are aging women and not the best of drivers. I keep it clear with my tractor as often as I can, but, I'm gone most of the day, so any snow during the day, I can't handle. Todd is always there when called. I think he kind of thinks of my wife as a "mother" figure. He is always on time, respectful, friendly, and goes out of his way to do a few extras, like hand shoveling around the front door.

While I might be content to give him a "c"note in an envelope with a nice card; I would sure like to come up with the perfect gift.

Any ideas?

He is a deer hunter, has a small time construction business in addition to his show plowing. so, what do you think is something he would really find useful?

I'm with you that a gift card might be better than cash.

I'm really hoping to come up with the actual gift that he might love. Historically, for my own loved ones, I only come up with something I'm proud of giving, every several years.

Frog eyes sound like a good idea. I'll have to figure out what the heck they are, though.

I've got a few grinners my neighbors son tore to pieces learning how to skin.
Was gonna use 'em for an attraction lure but sounds like you're in a predicament...

On second thought - go with the frog eyes - sounds like he's a good guy!

The knife ideas are good. I wish I had the time to make him a custom one, though.

You can give it to him later. It will be appreciated just the same. Most everyone like handmade stuff and a knife would be appreciated by an outdoors person........jk

Not sure what his tool supply is like, but a stiletto hammer would be pretty sweet. Lots of different price levels depending on what you want to spend. I probably wouldn’t ever buy one , but would be happy as heck to get one as a gift.

Perhaps the c note, and a nice note telling him how much his efforts and attention to detail would be appreciated. I'd even suggest you write it and tell him you are usually humbug but greatly appreciate his help and you have a great respect for his work ethic.

These days sincere appreciation are in short supply.

If you make custome knives, I think it would be a great idea. Especially if your willing to give it the extra attention like you feel he does for you.

Second idea, could be if he brings his deer meat to be processed anywhere get him a certificate for the processing/ if his vennison is there pay it off, or part of it off.

I would opt for being late with the gift rather than rushing to make christmas if it ment a more personalized gift.

Put the Benjamin in a 20 oz Yeti Tumbler- a bonus would be to have Todd engraved on it, a lot of local award shops do the engraving. The Yeti camo ones are cool

A really nice pocket knife that he will carry every day of the year. Remembering who give it to him every time he uses it.

Something else I thought of...if he drives a newer truck and seems like a guy that takes care of things...

A gift certificate for a full vehicle detail could make a heck of a nice gift.

Thanks. Some good ideas.

Cash and gift cards are good, but, I'd like it to be a little more personal.

The handmade route is good, but, the timing sucks, as the plowing season is now.

So, at this point I have an idea:

I'll buy him a nice hunting knife, and make a couple mods. A little engraving on the blade, personalized scales, and hand stich the sheath. That and the C-Note ought to be appropriate.

That Stiletto® hammer would be a perfect alternate if I can't find the right project knife.

while the 100 dollars could be handy for him, get him a custom knife. i got my landowner a custom made turkey call one year as a thank you , that meant a lot to to him.
