if the package was sent Media mail, they are allowed to open it to verify contents. If the contents aren't whatnis allowed by Media mail rules, the package proceeds with postage due! This ^^^^^. Media rate is much lower than say USPS Retail Ground, so if they don't believe its a book, record, cd, dvd- all without ANY advertising, they can open those packages for inspection. P.S. If you're using their service, even though you paid for it, I think they can open any package and inspect, especially if they have suspicion that there is contraband or you're using their service wrongly. If they do need a "search warrant", they probably have certain district judges on speed-dial and it gets issued. I don't think getting a warrant, if needed, is any problem for them...

I could only imagine what they would think if they opened a package containing coyote urine or skunk essence! You would get on their naughty list notice. You have a skunk "bomb" go off in their facility, and you'll probably never ship with them again. If you lied on your disclosure, such was it "liquid" or ""hazardous"", you may be fined for the cost of their clean up.

The package was probably sent via Media mail which is a rate that only applies to media materials. It is a lower shipping rate. If the package would have contained anything non-media related the sender would have been called to get his package and correct it. Media mail can be opened and inspected for content so don't send illegal stuff via Media mail....lol
