just saw a thread about cat loops and was wondering about otter loops. I have been waiting on otters that have not been back for 13 days and another spot waiting on 8 days? whats your experience on otter loops?

Once you get to know your line over a few years they can be somewhat predictable.
For example, one spot on my line there is a creek, with several beaver ponds on it that connects the big river to a chain of lakes.
If I see otters sliding towards the lakes I know they will be back within 3 to 4 days.Their run up into the lakes is unpredictable but their return trip is very predictable.
It is not always the same otters doing this. For whatever reason they go up into those lakes, feed for several days then head back down into the river.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I trap otter on a small creek that feeds into the Wisconsin river. I set traps about 4 miles from where it meets the Wi river . sometimes it takes them 30 days to return. it seems if we get a storm or a big dump of snow they come back earlier

They will come through one to two days after you pull your traps.

Just caught my 1st of the year last night.

Blind set in a farm pond at the culvert.

Trap had been set for 10 days.

Pocket set on the pond bank has not connected yet.

Matt

Found two toilets about 100 yards apart. Set two 330's on one set but the other had to use a MB550. Got a double on the club's a week ago but no new sign on the 550. This morning I had one in the 550 but as I approached it pulled out and dove back into the river. No way I could have made a drowning set to prevent this from happening and he did a good job of tearing Things up enough that I doubt I could make it work again. Frustrating but thays all part if the game I guess.
