Hey had a guy give me a few beavers that where in the deep freezer for a year. All beavers where skinned out and bagged, i just unthawed them and they have a bad smell too them, i fleshed 1 and it looked alright and the fur is not slipping. Looked like a little bit of mold on edges of flesh. any help if there going to be ok??

Stop rot will help if you think the hides are at risk.

Sounds like maybe they got thawed out at one point.
Go ahead and board them and see.

I just had the same thing happen. The biggest problem was the hides were wrapped tight in plastic. I pitched them due to the smell. The green around edges didn't make me want to do anything with them either. I would like to know how they turn out. My biggest problem was I didn't want my buyer to smell them and think all my stuff was bad too. I am selling Thursday, or at least listening to the offer, to GFW when they stop near me. I will post my take once I see what they say.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Your going to be disappointed. I sold some fur on Friday. The same size beaver I sold to GFW in January sold Friday for $4 less that then they did in January. I got $8 for my biggest beaver. Thats put up. I never measured it but it weighed 58lbs. Sold 2 in January same size for $12 both put up.

Ive had green bellys on marten and coyotes that looked worse then these and still did good. I wonder if fleshing and mybe washing in a bucket would help.

Green bellies on muskrats usually clear up on the stretcher and also the smell disappears.

If you are only getting $8-$12 for your Super Blanket beaver, I suspect that they may not be properly handled.

You can suspect all you want, but when they comment on how nice they look I suspect that's not the issue.

Carl, which sale was that at? Oregon, NAFA, FHA? Pretty cheap for your beaver, and I've admired your putup.

Good luck with the beaver. Man

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?
