I used to love shooting a slingshot when I was a kid. I ran across some slingshot videos on YouTube the other day. It kind of got me wanting one. I had no idea there where so made different styles. When I was a kid you had natural forks and wrist rockets. Just curious if there were any other slingshot shooters on TMan?

All I know is that you can not use them in real cold weather. But they are fun, never got real good with one.

Had a wrist rocket when I was younger. Got good enough to harvest small birds, squirrel, and pigeons with it. Dad was a mechanic and saved me all the ball bearings he replaced for ammo. Some good times with that tool back then. Will definitely get my son one some day when he's ready.

Got a few that I still use.Great on rabbits.Use marbles for ammo. Can get them at a local discount store,or at flea markets (marbles) .Steel ball bearings a little harder to come by. I use a Y shape frame (bent steel rod) or wrist rocket frame with rubber tube .Tube can be purchased on line or at Wall Mart ,sporting good store. They even have a laser sight model but that just takes away from it .
Every day is good, some are just better!

I had a wrist rocket when I was about 10 or so. Always thought I could kill a deer with it. Turns out a marble out of one will bounce off a deer. That was 45 years ago and would have never thought about it until I saw this post. Thanks for the memories...
Wish I had more time to trap....

Old bike innertube and a stout Y branch.
Always wanted to learn to do a sling like the Palestinians do or how young King David did against Goliath. Slings look pretty simple to use, almost like throwing a baseball type motion.

Never used a slingshot but as a kid, made a lot of catapults out of y-branches,old leather, string ,and inner tube.Used to walk the tracks and pick up the small iron ore pellets for ammo.Killed rats at the dump, skunks birds of all kinds and other stuff. Learned how to hunt with fist size rocks later on when I moved up north.

I still mess around with them from time to time.
I've got a couple commercial wrist rockets and a couple dozen wooden ones, mostly tree crotches, but a couple cut from lumber.
I use all surgical tubing, nowadays. Natural rubber innertubes are extinct as my namesake user name.
For ammo, I use cast lead balls, or glass marbles.

Well the wife just told me if I didn’t order one she was going to get me something I’d probably never use for Christmas. (LOL) Simple shot makes some nice looking stuff and there just over the hill in NC. I think I’ll give them a try. I’d love to get accurate enough to hunt with one. (Providing its legal)

when I was a kid I made a lot of them including slings. was always on the lookout for an old pair of boots somebody had thrown away. a great pouch can be made from an old boot tongue for sling shots or slings

i've got a basic crossman wrist rocket you can pick up just about anywhere - I"ll shoot just about anything out of them, but If im trying to actually hit something, I use lead or steel bearings. never was real good shot - but a rabbit within 15 yards was probably in trouble

T Rex do you cast your own lead or buy commercial stuff. I’m looking for a good source for 3/8 or 7/16 lead ammo.

Steel is no where near as good as 3/8 ounce round lead sinkers. You can feel the power when you release them. They go wack when they hit. But for me I need a big barn for a target......jk

I have an amazing home made slingshot , made for me from a friend many years ago, who made them for others too .....his hobby in woodworking . My name inscribed into the handle. Perfect fit, I could haul back on it and send a stone , marble or ball bearing with searing speed in accuracy. The surgical tubing tied onto it served me well for a long time, but it finally broke down and now I need to replace it. I dont know how to tie new tubing onto it, the way the designer did, so alas, it is inert, until I can find a way to replace that very effective tubing and ties. I have loved using it in fun, and other variety of ways. I find moose are especially fun to shoot. To influence them to vacate garden or yard. They have a nervous system all their own , lol. They don't respond like so many other animals. I have it down in dealing with them A shot with a marble searing into rib cage with a resounding THONK gets them thinking . What works best is a heat trailed comet searing just under the ears in the upper neck . They spin in a rollback maneuver as pretty as a reigning Quarter horse . A few to the ribs or backside tells them to keep going . You can get as close to them to execute these moves as you want. Just need a tree or other cover to be able to flee behind, just in case It is humorous to see them frown at me . Another fun thing is to see a raven flying low towards you, and launch a small stone in front of their flight path. They see the stone rise in front of them and do amazing aerobatics avoiding it . Like fighter jets in summersault maneuver Once, I was at the top of a mountain after half a day's climb , enjoying the serene beauty and peace of the terrain. I began sight shooting small stones against a dead Hemlock . The stone hit the trunk and sailed right back to me, and with no thought at all, I instinctively reached up with my left hand and caught it . I wouldn't have believed it myself , if some friends in the group hadn't been there as well and witnessed it . Im certain I couldn't do that again no matter how hard I tried I really miss my wood custom made slingshot. I just need to get new surgical tubing, and have it tied in the same deft effective manner that the carver used. I like them a lot. Effective, influential, and helps to make good decisions for the recipient .

Classic Trumark Wrist Rocket here. I was deadly with that darn thing. I shot all manner of game with it when I was a kid, but mostly squirrels. I did kill some cottontails too, as well as the odd 'possum. I even used mine to kill the second Red Fox I ever trapped....it took a few marbles, but got the job done. That was in the 60's. I still have that slingshot to this day. Makes me wonder how many new tubular bands I bought for it over the, maybe, 50 years I've owned it.
