Im about to make a late, emergency CR purchase, am I justified in thinking I need that extra swivel?

Can't hurt, I think our regulations require it. Yours may be different.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Try them and let us know if they make a big difference. I switched to 1x19 this year but am still using up some of my 7x7 cables up. I have had several chew outs with the 7x7 but the 1x19 seems to be much more chew resistant. Plus it's a smoother faster cable. I was on the fence about adding the swivels as well but skipped for now. I'd say if you are getting 7x7 get them with the extra swivel

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine!

The In line swivel In my opinion Is very important . What It does Is It keeps the cable from separating. And once the cable separates It becomes a lot easier to chew through.
Once I went to 1X19 for the loop end and added a line swivel between the 1X19 and the 7X7 I haven't had any chew outs.

^^^^what he said! I’ve been cutting my snares in half and adding a swivel for bout a decade.

It also saves you a lot of cable. Most time the attachment side of the snare is reusable and only the kill loop side needs to be replaced. I use one side of drive chain link for a swivel(looks like the #8). But cable thru one end hole and crimp stop and the opposite way on the other. Never had one separate or bind or break and the are free from used one or about .05 per if you buy a chain. I took apart one chain and got about 100 links and have been recycling them for years. They come in different sizes. I use I think #10 for fox/cats.

I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

I make another extension and add a barrel swivel to it out of old cable, and save every extension after a catch.

I still get chew outs with 1x19, much fewer than 7x7, I always use the big brass swivel, had a black swivel break from a deer
