The Domestic partner, future wife, has a son in Hobbs NM. We are a couple years away from retirement (and hopefully some serious trapping). She pines away at wanting more time with grand kids and I'm wondering what sort of trapping fun I could find, as a non-res. in that Hobbs area. No plans for a permanent move. Got good trapping available here in Alaska. But I'm sure I would enjoy an occaissional change in scenery.

Coyotes can be trapped/snared all year long. Furbearer season is typically from November to mid March or so, with no limits on protected furbearers, bobcats, and a couple others I can't remember. Check out the game and fish website, I believe the trapping stuff starts on about page 120 or so of the proclamation.

Awesome.
The link below is to a pdf of this year's big game hunting proclamation. Hobbs is a mixture of species, private and public lands. Lots to be trapped and hunted there including lion. You might as well put in for the various big game hunts in the area this way it's a multi- purpose trip.

Not too familiar with the Hobbs area but count on cats, yote, fox, skunk, badger, ring tail cats and lion for sure. You can only trap lions either on private lands with written permission or on state trust lands. There might also good waterfowl hunting around there. I have friend who constantly travels to Roswell to hunt waterfowl.

Hobbs is close enough to Texas too.

Would be great to find a spot to snag a few cats. Even gray fox. Likely won't be for a couple or more years but a guy has to look ahead. Her son is a geo science guy and working for an oil co. Could end up somewhere else by the time we are seriously retired!!

Shouldn't be a problem finding cats and grey fox. I don't blame you for planning ahead.
