I lowered mine by just cutting out excess salt.
Don't they have medicine where you live?

I never use salt or cook with salt.

I'm taking 4 different BP meds now. Don't want any more

Ignoring Hal will probably lower it a few points.

It makes total sense.

Reminds me exactly of many examples I have heard reported, and seen personally, of people who, through practice, literally lower their heart rate , or normalize it , even controlling body temperature in other cases, to a very effective degree.

Those who have practiced this , for generations, have been Ti Chi , martial arts, yoga masters, monks throughout Asia ,through a very similar meditative process , controlling their breathing , hence lowering their BP.

To a degree , I have learned to do essentially the same thing that this technique offers. It is a learned way to calm and center one's state of mind, which directly affects heart rate. Breathing properly is directly related to the process.

I would say definitely give this a go. Along with your good way of eating, it surely only can add to success.

I have seen this breathing process practiced personally for many years in the Ti Chi and martial arts as long as I can remember.

I say it could be worth a try! Taking 4 bp meds is a lot, but way better than a stroke or heart attack. I have never heard of Resperate, but may consider it. I take 2 meds for bp, and my doctor says I will always need it. If I miss a dose, I feel like stomped mud.
With the lowered rates shown in the article, mine would still be way too high. If you try it, please let us know results!

I will. My doc is changing 3 of the 4 next week so I'll see what that does. I don't have a lot of confidence that the change will help.

Well I hope it does. Bp is nothing to play with. I had to start keeping a dose in my vehicles, for those brain dead mornings, when I forget to take it!

Never heard of that white but I agree, it's worth a shot. When you feel like crap all the time, anything is worth a shot. I did have a buddy back in the 90's who struggled with high bp and he found a Indian Dr who swore he could cure it with diet. So he took a 40 day leave of absence and joined the Dr's program. It was 30 days of digestive cleansing, mostly carrot juice and supplements. Then it was a very strict diet. Have to say, it worked. He never looked better and said he never felt better and he never needed meds for hp again!

Yep....Catch, that is correct.

Similar to the low carb eating that Patrice and others were referring to a while back.

Finding the right ones, over time, and often eliminating others, which is great , will help smooth things operating in tandem . It will work out ...things that medical personal have known and had success in for decades, even centuries, are sadly only recently gaining in knowledge in this country....for reasons obvious ....

It will work out ....

Actually I had never heard of this thing RESPeRATE until last night. My primary care physician sent me the link to it.

Yesterday my BP had been spiking all day... But last night, right here on the forum, while some of us were sharing music on that one thread.............I took my BP.

It had dropped from 177/90 to 120/60. I sent that reading to my PCP. She sent back the link. So she is thinking that my BP was moderating in response to the music.....thus the thinking about external rhythms influencing pressure

Well then easy peasy, just listen to music all the time. grin Seriously, that's interesting. Can you think of any recent changes at all. Like maybe diet, environment, or perhaps other new meds your taking now verses 3 years ago.

Nope . I actually think it may be an adverse reaction to the latest BP drug they added. That happened in October.

Exactly !

Live brain scans have shown singing connects both sides of the brain , literally lighting up the screens ....it entails full circulation of the electromagnetic system, hence raising energy , same deep breathing , slow exhaling , focus on breathing, better posture ....leveling heart rhythm.

Interestingly, the same technique used in long range shooting , too.

Singing is fun anyway

wink

Then I'm with Sharon, I bet it's just a matter of them matching the right one for your body and then your golden. I have know more than several people, some family, who struggled a bit with HBP and when they found the right med that worked they were good to go. It will work out, but in the mean time I would be soaking up the tunes!

Yeah. Well the 4 didn't seem to be doing the job so my PCP talked with the cardiologist and the state's head pharmacist. Doing nothing really doesn't sound like a viable option laugh

Yeah I am. Heck I've been rode hard and put away wet before laugh There's medical help here and a Lear jet on 45 minutes notice so I'm not concerned. Heck, we have to die from something. But you're right. They may ease me into those new drugs one at a time. We'll see what happens

Well, I like it. I have to say I haven't been using it nearly as often as I should. I think it works. I like it. I can't say for certain it's helped, but I try to continue using it as I seem to like it.

Be very careful about pills. My buddy was on blood pressure meds and they were changing them around. All of aa sudden he started to lose his memory, to the point he had to go to a nursing home, and eventually died from it.

They figured out, too late, that two of the meds he was taking reacted and caused it.

Very wise White17.

I really miss my buddy. Met him in the early 80's and have known him since. He was a V.N. Vet as you are.
He owned the business beside mine and i watched him struggle when this took place. Sad deal.

Yes, AJE, though considering the cost in AMA meds and their side effects, its worth every penny.

Along with what I already have known of controlled breathing , and the effects the mindset, music, being truly happy, etc, has on the rest of the body, it is such a wonderful help.

Your very welcome.

He started to "go-blank" . I saw it myself early on, he would be making change(he owned a store) and fumble around. He, after getting worse, went to some specialist and when he saw the meds he was on stopped them right away. Damage was already done tho.

I was able to get off of all my meds, and maintain a BP of 125/73 with a resting pulse of 46-50. All I did was lose 170 lbs. This may not work for you but it has helped me greatly. Best of luck with the med switches and getting your bp under control.

Before investing $300 in RESPerRATE I'm going to try limiting myself to only opening threads that have the word chickens in the thread title.

There are a few people for who medication has no or limited effect or the effects are adverse enough to negate any benefits

Western medicine has long discounted anything but drugs and many doctors discount any drugs not developed in a lab somewhere but many are coming around to the belief that there is more to medical knowledge then what drug to prescribe

White i would give it a try you might also look into Qigong it’s a Chinese method of promoting health and from my own experience it works it takes all those things that Shannon was talking about and blends them all together to the benifit of the one using it

I'm trying to eat healthy, portion control, and exercise myself. Nothing is better than that.

I'm addicted to over eatting and being lazy though. Its a tough tough habbit to break.

Its hard to get people to understand that they aren't hungry like they think they feel they are actually addicted to feeling stuffed from over eating. Literally an addiction.

Those low carb diets that say you can have high fat aren't sustainable. Especially for BP I would think.

You don't eat healthy b/c its cheap thats for sure and if salads fruit and veggies are expensive in Ohio I can't imagine what it must be like there.

We can chat about it anytime you like buddy. Best of luck to you. Let me know if I can help.

You're right about the cost of produce here. Astronomical !

But I still try to eat a salad every day.

This November will mark 4 years for me on the low carb diet. I honestly don't miss the things I have eliminated from my diet.

Also my BP has finally stabilized without any more tweaks to the meds. We'll see how long that continues.

I didn't try the RespErate machine but I DID teach myself to breathe in a similar way the machine does. It was amazing how effective that is in dropping BP.

Indeed .

There are a lot of dynamics to the low carb eating. Ive done it for years, and with natural food based supplements, have felt very good , with insulin ratios, BP well in line.

Patrice has a very informative thread on the forum about these things, with medical facts and the life experiences included . There's a reason BP rises after a bit if nothing is done about meds , that info is addressed on that thread also ...how the body adjusts along the way in reacting to prescription drugs , and what to do about it .

Bottom line , is once the goal is attained in the low carb journey, it becomes easy to maintain , yes, with no more craving of the foods that spike insulin levels. After the system levels out, enjoying foods that are higher carb , in moderation , does no harm , but always keeping to the foundation of non insulin spiking foods in general.

Proper breathing and mind set is a powerful force , which many have done and known about for generations in cultures of the world. Music is also- the right kinds. Many brain scan studies have revealed amazing mind/body responses in how it helps tremendously. It is now being implemented in helping veterans with astounding success.

All good stuff .

I read the book White suggested, Protein Power. I was amazed at the role insulin levels play in your overall health. According to the book, controlling your insulin levels are one of the most important things you can do to maintain good health.

It's a real eye-opener, that's for sure!

As I mentioned, my BP was always in the 120s/70s. I always took vitamin supplements and a multi vitamin. About 3 years ago, I quit taking the supplements and just started taking the multi vitamin. Not long after that I noticed my BP was starting to go up. One of the supplements I had been taking for a long time was Vitamin E 400 units.

In the book they mentioned that they would recommend Vitamin E as the most important supplement to take. A week ago, I started taking Vitamin E again. I plan to start a closer monitor of my BP and will sound off in the future if I see any change.

grin Indeed again .

Its power enlightening to know what can be done instead of relying on sources who are decades and more behind things that really work on the source and not bandaid the symptoms.

While there are places for ivory tower AMA practice, and good options mixed, its a practiced balance in blending the two, even to phasing out completely, or nearly so, the old things that never addressed the source and actually build and heal health and the body's operation.

As Suit always said , in Jessie Stone...." the information's out there, all you have to do is take it in " ....

Did you see the Jesse Stone series with Tom Selleck? I have the entire series in dvd. Tom Selleck is perfect for the aging, drunken Jesse Stone. He has a dog. Every time he pours himself a drink, the dog stares at him. Jesse feels self-conscious and says to the dog, "What're you lookin at?"

LOL ! Yes I have the whole series too ! I love it. He is so much better in the later movies like this than in the earlier ones when he was much younger, IMO .

Good movies are timeless . Never grow tired of enjoying them , looking forward to the lines so fun to hear over again....and getting new details overlooked in previous viewings too.

When the series first came out, I just instinctively knew it was going to be good.

Just " feel it in my cells " . grin

I liked Magnum PI OK. But, Tom Selleck is a perfect Jesse Stone. I've read Parker's character Jesse Stone and they couldn't have picked anyone better. He's a perfect fit for Jesse Stone. I don't care for him in Blue Bloods, though.

Wishing you the best with your BP problems.
You ought to consider what Hal did to lower his BP quite a bit.

He quit looking in a mirror

As old & decreped as you are having any blood pressure should be good thing !

All poking of the bear aside , have the doctors suggested increasing your heart/lung capasity by taking up running/jogging/ other cardio workouts to increase/strengthen those areas ?

I know several who weren't getting good results with meds that started cardio workouts/running/ etc. & greatly lowrred there B.P. , as well as lost weight , & got other benefits.

Some just took up bike riding , easier on the body then running . Accept when you get careless as one was & wreck at 17mph & go flying over the handlebars .

Nothing like pulling up some threads from the past.
Really White all the advise goes out the door...all you need is to go out and shovel another 4 feet of snow off your roof..daily
na I don't wish that on you

Wife has been reading labels and % of salt for daily up-take.....processing is our down fall
Could not get my levels down, till she looked at what I was eating. Took a week to shed the salt that I had taken in to get the levels down

What gets my pressure up is the feature here...." IGNOR " and I click on to see what has been posted....and then have to follow the plans of IGNOR

Caffeine is something that really changes between the brands of coffee and really spikes some pressures. Learned that through freehand shooting, from tennis ball groups @300m to pie plates to pizza plates after 15 minutes

I probably could but I really don't miss it.

North : I don't need that ! Another winter like last year will put me down for keeps !!

I have no doubt that I drink too much coffee and my sleep habits are awful ! That probably has a LOT to do with my BP.
