Cleaning out grandpas garage before its sold.
Only trap we found, never knew he even owned one.
Cant figure why he wrapped one jaw in copper? Probably an eternal mystery.

That is a very nice find.
Didn't there use to be an old wise tail about using copper to preventing rust or corrosion?
I have seen old traps with copper wire on the jaw also. I figured it was to ID it.

An absolutely cool find. Would be fun to catch a muskrat with it and then hang it on the wall. Something to tell your kids and grandkids about.

That picture indicates it might work - chain & swivel are rusted more than the trap.

Absolutely

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Cleaning out Grandpa’s garage must be bittersweet. I hope you find more treasures and preserve many memories along the way.

I would guess the copper is used as a non-corrosive spacer to keep the jaws from rusting together in storage. Just a guess though.
