Anyone done any experimenting with combining (rendered or fresh) saq oil and beaver tail oil as a curiosity lure for both beaver and k-9's?

I’ve not done this but would imagine that the sac oil would Over power the BTO in short order. I would be tempted to try this one drop at a time of sac oil with say 4 oz. of BTO . It would then be easy to duplicate on larger batches if it proves out.

I have found that sac oil is the best beaver lure I use.

That's interesting, Jim. You're the first person I've heard say that.

Bobskey, lots of us on this forum use one or both. Personally, I mix a very small amount of sac oil in with ground castor as a beaver lure. I use the bto alone at flat sets. Tony, here on the forum, sent me a killer batch. If he chimes in, he's very experienced with the whole bto thing. I have had success with both.

One qualifier I will add is that my beaver trapping is summer adc work. I started using straight sac oil simply because it was basically free and had little market value. I think it hangs in there through rain, heat etc. With the best of them.

I must agree john sac oil is excellent. Once you learn how to handle and apply it for predators

I have heard that there is little value on saq oil, but I harvest every pair of oil saq's I can when I remove the castors. Some I freeze and some I render for a couple of years. I've used saq oil in my beaver castor lure and alone as well as a curiosity lure of fox and coyote. I like its water shedding ability and was just wondering if it would work well with bto.

What can it hurt? Experiment with percentages, and come up with something they respond well to. It's obviously going to be a curiosity lure, so the different ingredients will make them respond well, when you hit it just right. I use sac oil in my homemade predator curiosity lure.

Add some rat glands, a touch of castor...maybe a secret ingredient...and kick their arse. The sky is the limit. That's the fun part.
