Refunds will still be issued, but might be delayed. The IRS will recall furloughed employees to process returns. Read about it here.

It hasn't affected me and I doubt it will affect anybody other than about 800,000 federal workers who are either furloughed or doing their jobs without pay.

I think the use of a partial government shutdown as a bargaining chip is stupid. It's meaningless and most Americans realize it. Both sides are grandstanding for media attention and voter support and playing politics with the lives of a relatively small number of government employees and it makes all involved look petty and ineffectual.

That's because those deemed "essential" are still being forced to serve you without knowing when they'll get paid. Most are on a two week pay rotation, and haven't missed the first check yet. When those forced to serve, have to start bailing out because they need to feed their families and pay their bills, you will start to be affected. Don't get me wrong there are positions that could be cut and let go... But the "non-essential" are the grease between the wheels. Training departments, trainees to replace retirees, planning/development, quality control... just to name a few are not "essential" to immediate safety.

Why not lay them off as mentioned earlier and then they could have unemployment? That's what businesses have to do - why not go by the same rules?

Im also one of those affected by this. We wont miss a check till next week and i have some savings so trapping some and doing extra around the place. As for having too many people working and needed vs non needed we only have 2 of the 7 people working now. They only have a maintenance and the lead wrangler checking horses. No other work is being completed. Kinda like when school goes on break the small staff keeps the heat on but no other work gets completed.

Do you feel, week to week, when research (name the subject that the fed gov is involved in) doesn't get done? How would YOU know if a new drug doesn't start clinical trials or a new map of important mineral deposit used in emerging technology isn't released? Etc. etc. etc. There are a substantial number of "non-essential" fed jobs that really don't translate well to the private sector, at least in the short term. Buy you may feel the impact in a cumulative way over time or at least there has been a societal desire to have such services done and knowledge created This isn't all about emptying trash cans in National Parks but whatever floats your boat...

Not bothering me. I worked all my life and SAVED funds for emergencies and always tried to live within our budget.

I'm guessing you all are still getting a paycheck? I work for the federal gov and my position requires me to continue to provide my services even though I'm not being paid. Very soon I won't be able to pay all my bills and I'm pretty bitter that I and others are getting kicked in the balls because the A holes we elected can't play together nicely and a small percentage of us are paying the price. I also don't have very positive thoughts towards folks who say they don't care the gov is shut down...

I dont know about you but i haven't even missed a paycheck yet . That wont be till next week . I'd rather this gets settled now rather then start it all over in February or October. I can totally understand others views and think our elected politicians should do the jobs we sent them to do. Only thing i wish is that this was over term limits and not just a wall.

For those worried about making bills or a mortgage , check with your bank or credit union , im hearing that most will loan or defer payments with no penalties.

The Cloc screensaver app on Roku is a time and weather app on my tv. I've somehow become dependant on knowing the outside temp in the morning when getting dressed by glancing at the tv. Evidently the national weather service isn't sending out the automatic data the app relies on.
Dang nab it I have to go open the front door now.

Could be very interesting if this thing drags through February and USDA can't reload food stamps for March. It doesn't seem possible for it to go on that long but I also thought they would make a deal this week after some more political posturing so who really knows. We'll be in uncharted territory if it goes on after January 24.
