I only caught one so far, and she had lice BAD! Nothing but fuzz on both sides. So for me, 100% worthless coyotes.
When life gets me down..... you know hunting/trapping season is closed.

Good morning to all, Just wondering what your percentages are on coyotes this year? I am running a few snares and it has been slow going with the weather here for sure, and to make it worse I’m running at 60% of them have mange. Now this is a extremely small sampling because I have only caught 5, but three have been bad. The bad ones were all on the same farm, and taken off bait piles I set. Any correlation? Frustrating when I finally get a snare on them and then they are no good!
When trapping or snaring bait piles(especially dead cattle pits that have been there awhile) expect to take a share of mangy coyotes. That's the easiest food source for mangy coyotes when they aren't physically fit to hunt. It's also a contamination source for the mite to be spread to other coyotes.

I trap yotes every January for 10 days. I’ll take 45-60 depending on weather. The last few years I’ve had 50% mange. Drives me crazy!
This year I started in the middle of December and had only 2 out of the first 20 bad. After six days of trapping it rained 2” and froze up so I switched to snares. Every single yote I’ve snared has had mange. Doesn’t matter if they are on the creek or up in open country. Mange of various degrees on all of them. It’s got me scratching my head. Only thing I can figure is that I’m not a Snare Man; only a guy that occasionally snares. Maybe I’m snaring the mange ones because they are not 100% there in the head, and the healthy ones are avoiding my snare sets. I really have no idea, but it’s drying up enough to get some jakes out so I’ll see what percentage I get next week.

A few years ago mange was almost 60%, this year less that10%, and they all came from a couple small areas. Keep pushing on, every mangy one you catch is taken out of the pool and will help bring it back under control.

Last year in SD, I pitched a third. Got home, and fifty% were bad. No mange, just lice. This year, in SD, about ten%, and I've been laid up and couldn't trap here at home. Only have caught a few, but they have all been good. The way the weather has been this year, it was a good year to have the issues I had!
Larry, they can survive the mange. Not alot will, but there are always survivors in the coyote world. If any of you have caught yotes with black scars on their feet, legs and ears, or any combination of the three, he is a survivor! I have caught them while they were healing up from it too. I don't know how they do it, but they are tough! Last three critters on this rock will be coyotes, crows and cockroaches!
