One of the trappers who drops off fur at my place said he had heard that NAFA was going to cut percentages on the price they pay for fur on smaller shipments. I don't know if that's been posted on here or not as I haven't been on here lately. Anybody enlightened me?

The only change I see for this year is a per pelt charge for shipping(using NAFA pick up service)if you are not a WFSC member. It used to be $9 per bag I think. This makes more sense for small shippers who did not want to pay the membership fee. If you ship directly to the warehouse the charge does not apply.

The seller side commission is more of a marketing ploy. The commission and fees buyers pay ( comes out of your pocket ) are unpublished. I could be wrong, but I believe many of these are made up and given to buyers a few weeks before each auction. This goes for both FHA and NAFA so this makes me an Canadian Auction, basher not a NAFA basher. This time.

The buyer commissions are established at the beginning of each season. They are published in each catalog. Three fees -
5.5 % of hammer price
Per pelt commission that varies by species
Per pelt packing fee that varies by species
On some low grade items, you pay more in fees than you do hammer price. Thanks for correcting me. The trappers cannot access this information? Is this published prior to first receiving date ? Thanks!

When all is said and done, with buyers and sellers commissions/fees/charges,the Auctions take in about 20 -25% of the selling price of each piece of fur that goes thru, except the years that they pay out profit sharing dividends.

I think I read in ITS that they were going to charge higher fees on those who have less then $100 worth of fur That's where the guy who told me about it said he read it, in ITS. I'll ask the guy who picks up fur at my place. He'll know for sure.

I think I read in ITS that they were going to charge higher fees on those who have less then $100 worth of fur LMAO!! That’s a good way to attract new shippers. Takes quite a bit of fur to exceed $100 now. Considering what they’ve been selling for as of late.

On some low grade items, you pay more in fees than you do hammer price. And on some not so low grade items the additional CITIES fees are pretty stiff. Buyers pay $7 USD. for each otter and ten bucks for each cat. This certainly affects how much a buyer wants to pay for a trappers skins at auction, on top of all the other fees and commissions.
