Guys those of you that use numbers 9 wire pounded in to how do you find your word after a catch. My coyotes tear the ground up and my number 9 wire vanishes in with all the other sticks and limbs. Any ideas? Thanks

Taping the bottom end driven into the ground with pink duct tape should do it. Maybe a micro zip tie around support and and snare. No cable restraints.

99% of the time my supports are just bent over and still there. I use galvanize # 9 also. I have taken a trap stake and ran it through the catch circle and metal to metal , whoops there it is !

Can't be done. If its lost its lost. Move on. Life is too short. I hate snaring... The only reason that losing wires doesn't make me quit is because when I lose one, it means I caught something!

That will work but I don't like the flexibility of a single wire wound on to a re bar stake. I want a stiffer set up I feel that If the critter doesn't hit that opening perfect to many snares get pushed aside when using a single wimpy wire for the support. And In most cases won't swing back Into position. The other thing we have to deal with In WI when running CRs Is that we can't be In entanglement situation. But I can stake out In the open and have my stabilizer and snare hanging close to the edge. But not allowing the coyote to get entangled. WE set a lot of 2 strand barbed wire fences and I can stake the cable out In the open and still set In the trail with my Cr but not allow the coyote to get to the fence. I wish we could make lethal sets but we have to play the cards were dealt.

Those supports are #9 wire, WELDED to the stake not just wrapped around, they are WAY more solid than any wire bent over and pounded in the ground. If you wanted it even more solid (though not necessary) you could double your #9 and twist it together with a drill before you wrapped and welded it to the stake. They are black annealed wire not the shiny galvanized that you can't wrap and gets so slick no decent support collar will work perfectly on it. In the one unique situation you describe I'd just use a 10" rebar with support wire welded and wrapped on for the support then anchor the snare with a cable stake if I thought I had to set them locations.

I get your drift. My buddy Is the most bull headed person I know. He still screws around driving a pilot hole then shoving In his 11 gauge wire that flops around In a strong breeze and will hardly hold up the snare. LOL

I run a single #9 wire as well. Keeping it completely straight is one of the main keys to my system. Stupid simple and has proven itself through numerous hurricanes and no telling how many deer pass throughs. Snare remains in place.
If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.

I use two ways for my #9 wire . one is weld it to my stake and the other one I learn from Railly is take a long spike. that they use for lawns and weld the #9 wire to it and then about 4" down weld a fender washer to it on center. then If you do not use a stake to tie of you snare you put one of these where you wan it and then you will have it there after the catch still. also it will not turn around because of the fender washer.

Yep. I am going my best not to drag earthanchors, driver, hammer, and rebar. I try not to carry anything with me that I can put in q back pack and a single 5 gallon bucket. I walk to all my sets the lighter the better. But i am seeing good places for kill poles and earth anchors one or the other.

Sounds like you'll be cabling off to trees, fences, etc... in that case you may as well go with newt's system of using 14 ga wire and anchoring them off trees and such. That's not an option much here since we have very few trees but I'd run a long extension cable and hope you can find locations where their trails go close to a tree or a fence to hang your snare.

Yep I use 90% Newts style snaring. I have seen a use for 9 gauge wire pounded into the ground and wolf fangs. I have seen uses for kill poles and for the pre made snare supports. While i wont ne adding kill poles to my tackle, wolf fangs number, 9 wire and possibly the pre made snare supports with wire will be added. I spend more time at a snare than I should. I can see the premade snare supports and wolf fangs speeding things up. I could set twice as many snares. Its weight vs speed. But determined to keep it to back pack and a single bucket, and it's getting too heavy!

I have shown this system before, but some guys have not seen em. Sure speed up snaring and lighten the load of rebar. 100% reusable and no welding required!
God bless
