I got a few questions on raising mice to make bait with, how big of a fish tank do I need? Once a female gets pregnant do I separate her? Do they need heat lamps or will they be fine in a fur shed with cedar chips? What else do I need to know? Thanks

Trapping is easy you say? You try getting your target animal to step in a 3 inch area of its whole territory.

I think youd have to squeeze yer mouse pretty hard to get a drop big enough to make the test work.

or train yer mouse to hold it, til she had a load, then pee on the stick.

I raised mice a couple summers ago. Unless you are going to use a lot of ground mice for bait I highly suggest you buy it. They are a terrible stinky mess.

depends how many mice you want

we kept about 40 in a 55 gal by making 5 or 6 levels with 1/4" plywood as "floors" like an apartment complex

wood strips were ladders so everyone could go anywhere actually, kept a couple "nursery" rooms on each floor.

Could we have kept more?......not sure....probably.

theres always a demand for fresh frozen mice.alot of the top name guys cant find enough suppliers to meet the demand. Remember cavens had to discontinue just mice for that very reason.

Wouldn't hurt to call and ask general questions on equipment needed that will suit your environment IE available space etc... and general starter questions. Just have to speak with the right individual in the pet stores. Lots of good info on the net as well. My sister raised rats and mice for breeding for years along with snakes. IAPITA

My brother and I attempted this. I found if you have a lot of them in a smallish space you need to change the bedding pretty often. Otherwise the would get sick and die. We didnt mess with separating them or anything. Just let nature take its course.

Also save the bedding. It reeks. And you can catch coyotes with it by itself or replace sheep wool with it.

Conviction is key

ive been wanting to do it for some time my plan is to have a 4x4x4 cube. With multiple floors ive got 3 sheets of the 1/8' expanded metal for the floors and perimeter. They need lots of space mice are very canabalistic Im considering incorperating a urine catch pan under mine.No urine is more distinct then mice! ive put a lot of thought into this once I have all the issues worked out im gonna build it!
