Aight, I've got an ice fishing question. For those that use tip ups how do you keep the hook from unwinding off the spool and tangling with all the others? It seems like whenever I try to pull one out of a full bucket the are all tangled up. I'm sure some of you experienced guys have come up with a simple effective method.

I use a strong rubber band, put the hook under it and wind up tight and insert the flag into one of the holes in the spool. I use Beaver Dam tip ups so maybe that method will not work for other makes.

I would suggest that you remove the leader and hook ,you will be that much closer to ready to put new hooks and leaders on for your next trip. The mono dosnt store well around the tip up spool , it will hang like a phone cord in the water and your presentation won't look natural. The hooks will rust and won't be quit as sharp , also the rust can damage the knot at the worst time and you could loose a good fish. Fish teeth can Nick the mono and another fish lost.
