Your not comparing apples to apples... Trapperman vs a specific FB group/page would be apples to apples. Trapperman vs Facebook is equal to web forums vs facebook.
Some groups/pages on FB are heavily administered, just like tman if not more so. However, anyone can spin up a FB trapping group (they pop up daily) and MANY are very loosely administered if at all.
Join the ones that are administered and its a more enjoyable experience, trapping talk on FB is a great group for instance.
And this data from this post, along with my age, location, etc is also data mined by various site crawlers...
I like both, I spend more time these days on FB for various reasons... but I like tman when I just want to chill out and read/skim without interruption, messaging, ads, etc.
I don't think that forum based sites like trapperman will ever go away. There is and will be a need to exchange information between like minds in a detailed manner. Youtube is fine if you want to find out what such and such is, but they bring up as many questions as they answer. That's why forum sites are indispensable. And in defense of newbies, sometimes it isn't as easy to find the answers you want by going through the archives. Remember that new means "knows nothing". Sometimes you don't know what to search for. A lot of folks on here use euphemisms or trapper shorthand when they talk about things. Example: when I want to know how to keep opossums out of my traps, I might not know to do a search for "grinners". Or if someone wants advice on a lure for "rats", I think sewer rodents, not muskrats. Even though I have been able to decipher most of it on my own, not everybody can. So they ask. Please don't fault them for being inquisitive. I came here and have stayed here because trapperman has an incredible amount of information, folks who don't mind sharing their knowledge and makes me feel like I'm a member of a community. I am safe to voice my opinions or ask my mundane questions. Thanks for that. It's rare today.
I for one have a real problem with the guys that tell the newbies to look in the archives. By that logic there is no need for any of us to ask any questions because practically any info any of us seek can be found on a internet search if you know how to find it.

I've never been on Facebook, but have looked over my wife's shoulder a few times. I think it should be named Gossip Site. It's sticking your nose in everybody else's business. I don't really care about what everyone else is up to.

The Pennsylvania Trappers Association has a Facebook page but they aren't active on it. the last post was March 2018.
I am a member of the closed group PA Trappers. 6,248 members and very active right now. At lot of young members with a lot of questions but a good number of experienced trappers too.
Tman and Facebook are the two sites I frequent most and I agree with DROCK, both are enjoyable for different aspects.
As far as data mining, it's the internet, don't put anything on it you don't want shared with or without your consent or knowledge.
Tman posts come up on google searches all the time. I'm not sure if they would for anybody who's not a member though.
I get posts on my facebook almost every day from the PTA.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I don't. It's a public page I believe? I looked at it yesterday and the last post was dated 3-30-18? Maybe because I'm not following the page?
Eh...wot?

Is it a Page or a Group. Usually the activity is all in the groups. And the Groups is where you want to hang out... the New Feed is a waste of time and mostly spam and people sharing cat videos

Well on Facebook it’s a lot worse. There is no need for “what’s the best coyote trap?” or “what track is this?” or “what’s the best DP bait?” to be asked multiple times a week. Nothing new here, the answers haven’t changed since yesterday. People still like MB traps. You can look in track ID guide. And raccoon still like marshmallows cat food and sardines. Once in awhile is ok though.

Not sure what you are looking at. The PTA has over 6000 followers and often makes a few posts a week or even day.
