It is true that permit holders would be known and thus a target for confiscation.

If the gun banners succeed in taxing ammo and ffl holders out of existence they could prevent any new ownership. Gun owners would stop shooting to hoard what they have. Gun banners would not be ok with that. Banning and confiscation would be necessary to them.

Disgruntled wives/ relatives/etc. would turn people in: High profile arrests based on this.

2nd amnesty period: many of the holdouts being scared would turn them in.

It is the violent acts committed by a very few individuals that is fueling the gun restriction and registration fire. Both sides can thump their chests and blame the other side but I doubt that will reduce the underlying problem. Are more acts of violence involving firearms occurring per capita? If so, why?Finding the answer to the WHY takes a lot more thinking than simply blaming the other side.

How many people would truly put their family, their homes, their property, their jobs and all of their assets at risk to own a gun. I'm afraid few than we think. Unfortunately.

Armed robbery and murder per capita is down not up. Check the numbers yourself. What there is , is mostly a direct result of the failed war on drugs. This school shooting nonsense would stop if high schools quit telling students no guns in vehicles, wood shop, or lockers . After school hunting or firearm competition is not the problem.
